Sound static
Played a couple matches for the free weekend and immediately bought it since it was so fun. Only thing is my sound has a lot of static. I noticed it uses the openal sound system and this usually happens with games that use it for me, probably because I have a pre Audigy creative sound card, yeah I know its pretty old but im poor lol. Had the same issue with unreal tournament 2003/2004 as well but there was a compatibility option that fixed it. Any kind of launch command or something I can use to fix it for altitude?

You could try replacing the OpenAL binaries that Altitude uses: OpenAL32.dll, OpenAL64.dll in C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\altitude\native -- older or newer versions of those files might work better for you.
I don't know of any compatibility options but I'll look into it. |

I've tried replacing the openal32.dll with the one thats installed to my windows/system32 folder which is the newest version of the the driver but it still has the same static.

No ideas how I can remedy this?

Sorry -- if you can give me more details (does it only happen when certain sounds are played? When many sounds are played simultaneously?) I may be able to think of something. Unfortunately I have no clue what the compatibility flag in UT2k3 is enabling/disabling on their sound implementation to fix your problem.

It's a constant static with all sounds, but not like a background noise. Say theres no sounds playing then theres no static. I believe the compatibility option in UT makes the game use your system installed openal driver and not the one supplied with the game. Though I don't know if thats exactly it or not since I've replaced the openal driver in altitude already with no difference. Unless its also doing something else that I'm not aware of.
