Default Unable to host online server

Greetings fellow aircombatants!
Yesterday I was tempted into buying this game after playing for a few hours during the free weekend (via Steam). This morning (or night/afternoon, depending on where you live) I attempted to host my very own server. I ran into a bit of a problem. After running the configuration tool succesfully (I run a W7 OS btw) I got the typical firewall error message from the server launcher.
This is it's complete log (I wish I could muffle this under a spoiler tab for readability, but alas)

[port 27277] [24 mei 2010 09:32:30,550] INFO: valid server hello response; remote IP is XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX:27277

The problem is that I've got all my ports forwarded (yes, for the sake of intensive testing I opened ports 0 thru 50000 on my router for this machine) and I still get the error. It wasn't a false positive either; after clicking ignore and starting up altitude>checking the server list it was clearly a LAN server.
uPnP is enabled (or disabled, it doesn't really make a difference) on both my router and my configuration.

My next step was to check if it would run if I made my machine a DMZ host (yes, dangerous I know but I was testing). The error disappeared, the LAN stayed.

For the sake of complete information: my router's some random ancient Thomson with the latest firmware updates (which is still ancient tho. 2007).
I turned my firewalls off AND added altitude and the server launcher to exceptions. Better overkill than sorry right. The port, 27277 is the correct one, I get a valid hello with any port.

Anyone have any ideas about this one?

Your server will only be in "LAN mode" if you explicitly checked that option in the configurator. All servers on your local network will appear as "LAN Servers" on your local server list -- this is just telling you that the server is hosted on your local network, not that others cannot access it.

The firewall error message, however, suggests that other players will not be able to communicate with your server. UPnP and/or DMZ/port-forwarding are usually required to resolve that error (normally you could simply enable UPnP and or DMZ and the error should go away). You may find the router-specific guides at http://portforward.com helpful.

I have forwarded all the required ports (and a few thousand I didn't need to) and the only way for me to be able to proceed without a firewall/router error seems to be to DMZ host. Obviously this isn't preferable, as it should be possible to hos a server without compromising the safety of my home network...

Agreed, DMZ is usually not the best option. You may want to try updating your router's firmware and double-checking your port forwarding rules (type=UDP, make sure they're pointing at the server's IP).

I'll give that a try.
The ports were already open in tcp and udp, I'm afraid...
Who knows tho, updating the firmware might work!
