Default Turrets, and 1de

Hey guys

I started working on a new gametype prototype, and so far it's a lot of fun and quite challenging when playing it with a small group.

Basically, it's a 1 team gametype based on 1de. You have to pick up a bomb and deliver it to the enemy base, which is guarded by turrets. So a lot of teamwork is needed in order to deliver the bomb, and mistakes can be fatal.

Anyway, I'd like to suggest new turrets. Right now, they can be customized by range and angle, but they can only shoot flak. It would be great if you could customize them to shoot different projectiles, like the biplane machine gun, loopy acid, emp and trackers, whale director/thermobarics, bomber bombs and randa laser (Get too close and you get zapped constantly). Also, it would be nice if you can configure things like health and perhaps even fire rate

This way you can really customize the turrets so they can fill a specific role on any map.

Also, for 1de in general, maybe make it possible to have a respawn timer instead of just 1 life. I know it shouldn't be called 1de then, but right now the focus is too much on killing each other so it's too similar to 1dm. Putting the focus more on an attackers vs defenders version of tbd might make it more fun. Long respawn times (10+ seconds) still makes death have a huge impact, but it doesn't end the game. The goal still is to plant the charge.

Completely agree that 1DE would be a whole lot more fun if the 1-life part was eliminated. Being able to respawn as in TDM would make the mode more team oriented instead of the extension of deathmatch that it has become.

I've tried this new gamemode/prototype and it's pretty fun. Please give frib the tools to expand this! This game mode = addictionlevel++. And frib forgot to mention that in the 'new' 1de there would be a timer, and if this timer ends the defending team would win.

Just did a few more games, was a lot of fun and the balance was quite nice with the 2 minute time limit. Good stuff and I and maybe some other will release some maps soon!

I actually didn't mean that to come out sarcastically. I think in part the reason why 1DE is hardly ever played is that it's far easier to kill all the players than to work on planting the demolition charge on the base.

I think I'm like the only guy in the world that likes 1de. The reason I like it though it similar to why you don't like it - it's basically 1dm, except without the ridiculous "chase down the last remaining miranda player for 5 minutes" part at the end.

Yeah, sorry about that. >.>

I enjoy Objective as well. Feels a lot like SnD from Call of Duty, but makes up for the previous game's shortcomings.

I'd second this and suggest that the Turret could be controlled by a player. You press E to pick your plane and if there's an available turret, you'd be able to choose it. When it dies, you spawn elsewhere.

I've been hosting the server for this new game mode yesterday and found out that the timer of 120 was hard coded in the server.

I haven't been able to bypass this so another thing that is really required is an editable timer field in the server configuration.

I really like this new game mode, it's a lot of fun to work together to get the objective done .

If anyone want's to try it, chat me ingame or join the "[test] Coop base destruction server" if it's up

Frib's suggestions are excellent. Above all I'd like to see a fire-rate control so you can do more with fewer turrets.

Also, currently there is a limit of 63 turrets - is this hard coded? It seems like an arbitrary number.

Turret count update to 127 or 100 IMO!

Won't know if it's hard on the bandwidth tho. Don't see a real problem from a programming perspective.

I know this forum doesn't actually mean much , but the #1 thing on my wishlist would be permeable wall objects.

This goes all the way back to my first Ball map where I suggested a wall that planes can go through, and the ball can go through, but planes CARRYING the ball would just bounce off. An off-sides line, sort of - you couldn't carry the ball over, you'd have to pass.

I'd love to see walls where you can toggle their permeability to multiple things - planes, gunfire, the bomb, etc.

A wall that planes bounce off of but turret fire goes through - that would be neat.
