Download version 1.1 with the stupid bot bug fixed!
DL LINK Coming soon to a Galaxy near you! (Monday or Tuesday hopefully) I have a blank spot on my map blueprint so if you have an awesome Star Wars idea, let me know and I'll put it in. The map will have 5 chapters and be pretty huge, I estimate 8-10 minutes to play: Chapter 1: "I Have A Bad Feeling About This..." Chapter 2: "Rescuing Princess Leia" Chapter 3: "Escaping The Death Star" Chapter 4: "TIE Fighter Assault" Chapter 5: "Use The Force, Luke!" Current progress - Chapter 1 90%, Chapter 2 60%. Started flight-testing Chapter 1 tonight. This map is 10x more fun if you mute the music and play the Star Wars soundtrack ![]() Screenie: That's no moon! Vesuvius has a copy of a deathstar tbd map made a while back by some person who I forgot. It has a nice layout and, with a bunch more turrets, could be converted into a co-op map. Palin's map looks nice, too (kind of).

Thanks York! This is my first map, so it's a learning experience ("Don't make a polygon that stretches across the entire map" lol).
Obstacles is a lot of fun. I like how you made us play Miranda without forcing us with the server or anything. Also a fan of how you gave us a shield and we have to learn NOT to use it right away. Everyone is always surprised by those one-shot-kill stacked turrets. |

The one shot turrets will get you once, but then when you know they're there, you won't get hit by them again imo.

Tonight's work is finished early (hurray!) because it was much easier to create collidable TIE fighters than I thought.
The whole map is done EXCEPT for the last chapter, the trench run. Now keep in mind, out of 63 turrets, 43 have been budgeted for the map so far, and 20 for the trench run. So this is truly the zone that will separate the Lukes from the Porkinses. Some flight-test screenies: In this version of Star Wars, the roles of Princess Leia and Photon Torpedo are played by the same actress. ![]() Threepio, shut down all garbage mashers on the detention level. ![]() THREEPIO! You could actually have a lot of fun with the battle of Endor. Fleet of Star Destroyers on one side, turret-tastic, and tight tunnels of the Death Star superstructure with TIE turrets, for example.

To be honest, the one fear I have is this the map is going to be too easy (up to the Battle of Yavin). Yes, it has 43 turrets, but it's also already big enough to host a few games of Core simultaneously. I had to throw some asteroids into the TIE fighter fight just to not make it soloable.
However, on teh other hand, this is such a story based map, that I really WOULD like mostly everyone to survive so they can take part in the big finale. Gonna start working on the trench run this afternoon. |

I had that problem with Void as well. 40 or so of the turrets are just to keep you moving in the direction I want you to go, much less challenge you.

See the first post for the download link. Weighing in at: *1.27 MB *8000x8000 pixels (about ten Cores) *63 turrets *97 collidable objects *37 powerup spawners *273 background images, including 35 storyboards I have pm'd it to Dev/Boko/Frib and it should be released on the official coop server soon. I know it's a real pain to download, I hope it's worth it To be honest I have no idea how hard/easy or fun/frustrating this map is, so give me lots of feedback if you play it... what can be improved, what needs to go, etc. The last part of the map was a major headache, trying to get turrets to behave the way I wanted. Screencaps from the last chapter: Perfunctory exposition sets up the action scene - just like in a real Star Wars movie! ![]() The gradients on the turbolasers took a while. ![]() D: They came from behind! ![]() Hmmm. The bot isn't stuck in a bot pen. He keeps dying. Plzfix
![]() Give the bot an enclosed area with pretty thick walls, 0 damage and 1 elasticity. And 1 health pack that respawns every 4 seconds in the middle to be sure he survives. |

Too many people were playing randa and exploiting some holes in mah map design D:
Changes made in version 1.1 *fixed teh stupid bot pen, the bot won't die now *fixed the tractor beam room so you can no longer cheat by shooting the ball *added an additional missile spawn *changed all detention-level powerups to health see the initial post for the revised version! |

So we played this map a few dozen times and imo it has some major problems. It's my first map after all
![]() I think it can be summed up as, too darn big. Most of the problems stem from the size: 1. The vast quantities of space mean the team straggles out. Lone planes then have to solo parts of the map to catch up. 2. There's too much flying and not enough action. The team outclasses the turret threats throughout the map except the TIE fighter fight (which is decent) and the trench run (where we get pwned). 3. I don't have enough turrets to keep people from breaking the script (killing Vader, going the wrong way to fetch Leia etc) or to enforce the teamwork puzzle like COOP_VOID does. 4. The game isn't long timewise (it's shorter than Elephant) but there's less for spectators to watch. 5. Too few people (4-8 on 15-server) survive till the trench run which was the whole motivation for the map. Now compared to these failures, some of the positively received aspects were: 1. Theme. 2. Graphics & movie stills. 3. The noncollidable secrets (Death Star, asteroid tunnel). 4. Hard ending. I think what I'll do is take the best part of the map - the trench run - and make it its own map. There will still be some teamwork puzzles, and I feel good about the "Use the Force" puzzle at the end (which no one has gotten to yet on the big map). Thanks for testing my map everyone ![]() |
