so I just installed alt on my desktop computer at home(win xp). I installed it in program files/altitude2 because I have the old version installed and didn't want to overwrite. Anyway I tried running a few times and it crashed pretty much right away after the splash screen with this in the error log:
Code:

So I tried installing again, this time in program files\altitude because I'm superstitious like that. I ran again, failed again. Then I ran it again and it worked.
