Default Patch: June 9th, offline mode, mouse control, bug fixes

================================================== ===============
June 9th, 2010

Added "Offline Mode" for convenient access to training and skirmish modes when playing without an internet connection

New mouse control configurations available under Options -> Controls -> Mouse Navigation:
* Turning and Throttle -- control orientation and throttle using the mouse (default)
* Turning Only -- control orientation with the mouse and throttle with the keyboard (best for mouse+reverse thrust)
* Disabled (prevent accidental switches to mouse mode)

Added configurable bot count to Training -> Skirmish

Added "Reconnect" option when disconnected from a server
Added (reason) to "has left the game" chat notifications for unusual exits (connection lost, ping kick, banned for <time>)

New console command "connect" (ex: press F1 to open console, type "connect 75.102.27.114:40004" to join the server at that IP:Port)

Server Configurator: added tooltips for "HTTP Map Download Source" and "Admin Account IDs"
Added server log warning "LAN mode -- only servers on local area network will see this server" when running with "LAN server" enabled.
JSON server log message "clientAdd" -- added 'aceRank' and 'level' attributes

Fixed visual artifacts when wrapping around map edges in spectator mode
Fixed rendering issue along bottom of ball_lostcity
Fixed a few bugs

Awesome, thanks for listening to the community!

Also good to see offline mode and improved mouse controls. Wont have much effect on me personally, but will definitely improve the game experience for many.

I like the new mouse controls but any way to get my side mouse button to be recognized?

The second update was a quick bugfix -- nothing significant. Unfortunately we are unable to detect some side-mouse buttons, though you may be able to access them in a roundabout way with programs like http://www.autohotkey.com/

Excellent update, the split mouse control + keyboard throttle is the best! All I need is mouse 4/5 bindings for perfection. AutoHotKey might work for Windows, but what about Mac? Linux?

Great work, and great game!

I noticed that the menu underlines indicating keystrokes are gone from the macintosh version. This is an interesting solution to the keystrokes-don't-work-on-mac problem.. any plans to implement working ones later?

Are there any other "reasons" besides the ones you've already listed? More specifically, are idle-kicks differentiated?

A small bug I noticed after the updates: (didn't test after the last one though)

I play in a window and have my ssh connection for irc shell usage open in another window. Often during the spawn timer in the middle of lives I alt-tab to the other window and back quite quickly. When I tab back, the camera centers to the spawn place, leaving a lot of black visible on the top (as the spawn is close to the top). After a short while the camera position returns to normal so that the area on top of the game field is not shown. If I tab back to the game right when I spawn, this causes disorientation and the tiny lag spike when the camera returns to the correct position is enough to cause some problems with steering. This behavior wasn't present before today and it would be great if it could be fixed.

gemigemi -- what you're seeing is "Mouse Navigation" where the camera ignores level boundaries to keep your plane centered. You can disable mouse navigation entirely under Options -> Mouse Navigation -> Disabled, though it generally shouldn't trigger unless you're moving the mouse when you tab back in. I'll look into the "mouse idle" detection to see if that case can be handled better.

I'm not moving my mouse at all, so it'd be great if this could be enhanced. There's another older problem that might be related to this:

Sometimes the mouse cursor warps to the middle of the game screen and comes visible. (again, playing in windowed mode) After a while it disappears as long as the mouse keeps idle. If I'm currently dead or otherwise idle I tend to push the mouse cursor away form the game window, but later it pops up in the middle of the game screen again.

So somehow the game decides to move the mouse cursor to the center of the screen. I guess this could be a potential problem for the idle mouse detection so you might want to look at it. Otherwise this is really a non-issue as the mouse cursor is so small it doesn't harm game play at all, although it's of course slightly irritating sometimes.

Edit: This mouse bouncing could probably also be an OS issue as I'm running Windows Server 2008 configured to act mostly like Windows 7, and there are some weird focus issues and other stuff with games.

It seems like mouse navigation was enabled by default with this patch. I logged in after the update and it was turned back on. I find it annoying because when I move the mouse to the top of the screen to check something on my computer (in windowed mode), it all of a sudden controls my plane.

The fix is simple... I just go into options and turn it off. But it would be nice if future updates kept the setting static (either enabled or disabled) rather than enabling it for everyone (unless I'm mistaken, which could be).

[Edit: thanks, lamster!]

Mouse control was previously an experimental feature, enabled only for new users, but has been rolled out as default-on for all users as of the latest patch. You can now safely disable it once and for all under Options -> Control -> Mouse Navigation; future updates will not modify your mouse control settings.

Aww, why is chat disabled in offline mode? I want to yell at my bots ỡ_ỡ

In all seriousness though, I also had the game jump to mouse mode on spawn while trying out offline play. After almost spiraling to death a few times, I ended up pulling the mouse.

Oops! One more worry: when I click the mouse, it makes me spawn even with mouse control turned off. This seems like a really bad feature when I only want keyboard control. Can you add this in next time?

Mouse Navigation is handled separately from general action bindings.

By default, mouse-left/middle/right are bound to Fire Primary/Secondary/Powerup (which also trigger respawn-readiness)

You can remove those bindings under Options -> Controls, second column, click each of the "Mouse ..." bindings and press backspace to remove them.
