Default my gift to noobo (sorry boko)

so yeah, took the liberty of grabbing ball_asteroids (which is an awful map, btw) and making it slightly less awful. now it's just mediocre.

how'd I do that? removed the pebbles.

you're welcome.

download it here.

username/password is duck/duck (thanks apa!)

Thanks for the backup guys

I'll get round to improving asteroids a bit with some user feedback.
But since the pebble is debated so much I'm leaving it in

The pebble adds a unique element to the map imo

Not quite unique, there's two of them.

On a more serious note, the pebble hasn't killed me or screwed one of my passes in ages, is just a matter of remembering it is there. Oh, and of course, play like this all the time:

i thoroughly enjoy ball_space the way it is. it has the best passing lanes (including self) imo, and the shot dynamic is funs. thanks boko

ffs kuja, thanks for getting me ip banned and making me ragetype this a second time. totally had an awesome post set up only to have my proxy time out and refuse to let me go back and repost what i had originally typed

anyways, it went something like this

i really don't get why anyone would have any love whatsoever for the pebble. it adds absolutely no strategic value to the map (seriously, convince me otherwise) and it was put in there for lulz. you say that it adds "uniqueness" and from what i've heard from the ladder-playing community it creates some lulzy moments. that's cool, but it's not what i'm looking for when i jump in a ladder game. i mean, these are the same people crying about how awful bowserscastle is, when that map is basically one giant pebble (not literally, obviously)

sure, it's cute and it kills noobs and screws up the occasional pass/clear. but does it really make the map any better to play? all it really does is occasionally completely mess with the flow of the game, which is my real issue with it. i mean, can you even imagine the outrage if someone did this to tbd_asteroids?

tbh, i could support a pebble on tbd_space using pretty much the same logic you're using to defend the pebble on ball_space. it's super lulzy when it blocks lobs and noobs crash into it trying to push!11!!1!11!

anyways, all pebble rage aside, the map has potential to grow on me. it plays kind of like a fusion of snow and maze (with space graphics) but the top lane being the only viable lane for a safe clear and the middle/bottom lanes being overpowered on offense make for a less-than-perfect map. no idea how to fix it, but i hated labyrinth at first and i like it fine now.

my god, my first attempt at this post was so much better. :\

The pebble is there so the ball won't slide too far along the bottom and it has the strategic value of not shooting the ball or flying against it!

Tbh if you manage to hit that pebble so many times u sux imo.

Could use some invisible "space dust" walls too.

the only times I've seen the ball rolling against the ground on that map is because it hit the pebble at a weird angle and started rolling backwards. working as intended?

also, I very rarely hit the pebble or bounce the ball against it (maybe once every 3 or 4 times i play that map, more if i'm drunk) and when i do it's usually when i launch a pass from a distance only to watch it bounce back to me, effectively killing the push.

if you want your map to be the next bowserscastle and known exclusively because of a cheap gimmick and not because of its gameplay, i guess this is the last post i'm going to make on the subject. i honestly think it has potential to be as good as ball_snow or ball_mayhem2 (almost universally loved maps) though, as evidenced by ufo's undying love and adoration of this map.

is the pebble a map "killer"? nah, not really. but your map's never going to be one of those maps that everyone's happy to play unless you remove the dumb pebble and maybe tweak some of the layout (which you've mentioned you were willing to adjust). hope you decide to go with making a great map as opposed to one infamous directly because of a handful of pixels.

See, the thing is, the pebble is small enough to only be a problem if you're doing really badly. Otherwise the low route would be very consistant for pushing due to how far away it is from the spawns. The pebble punishes ****-ups and I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Not to mention it has sort of turned into a community meme.

Why don't you just put the tbd_roids floor on ball_roids? I never understood the flat floor on that map.

You're on the surface of a flat asteroid, that's the story at least.

The map didn't work with the tbd floor, too many people crashing down there because of the jagged outlining. See what only 1 pebble is doing to people, can you imagine a complete jagged bottom?

Uhh howd I get you ip banned? Who are you lol? From a thermo's perspective the pebble has its uses, I'm not in it for the silly kills as nubs who'd actually crash into that thing crash into everything else as well for equal comedic effect.

Yes I can, it would require someone to actually be decent with their plane which is a bit of a stretch.

Until ball_carebears comes out, there is no such thing.

When I see the hate such a good map as asteroids is getting, I just wish people would put that much energy in fighting the real world's problems. Like funnelpark's awfulness.
