Just as an idea, I'd quite like to have the option to turn off the kills/assists/deaths figures when I press shift as it will help me to keep rhythm when I play and not fall victim to becoming too conscious of getting the best ratios *cough zero cough*!
Originally my suggestion was to get rid of these figures for everyone when they press shift, keep the names of players etc though. Then show tables for each team at the end with the ratios, I feel it would up the level of play and people would become less ratio conscious during game which I feel can effect the rhythm of your play if u constantly see your ratio not as good as others! However its hard to remember the game isn't solely made for competitive leagues hehe! please post your thoughts as I genuinely would really like to see this take of the ground (at least the choice to turn the numbers off. nipnip LATEST SUGGESTION UPDATE; To have the choice between a XP based table or ratio based table when you press shift (via acc options) as well as the option to turn of these figures all together in acc options. I think it will help people up their games as you will be less aware of your ratio, I think its safe to say its easy to become conscious of your ratio ingame and as a result effect your style of play and rhythm to. I'd be open for the ability to shut it off client side...why not? But I don't think it's a good option to make it mandatory or permanent or whatever.

I agree with Payne. Sometimes it's good to see who is dragging your team down in terms of map control.

well maybe u could do something on the rank in the shift option. like u remove the numbers but when ur on the last place on the shift option it means ur ratio is the worse.
people start playing better cuz they know they are on the last place wich means there ratio is the worse. but it can still cause ratio whoring. but i think it will reduce it at some point |

It's interesting to note that in Team Fortress 2 at some point they removed Kills/deaths etc from the scoreboard, and instead just purely have points & ping (not that long ago it showed kills, deaths, points, ping).
I think this would be a good way to go... depending on the game mode. It means the tab ranking addicts.. like me... will be less concerned about pure KDR, which helps nobody outside of team death match. Even then, just having a lot of kills isn't good for the team if you have a lot of deaths. It also doesn't reflect reflect killing high value targets, like when you are gold bar hunting. Seems unfair that bomb and ball runners get trashed all game in the scoreboard only to get MVP by a long margin at the end. - For TBD & Ball it should simply show score, in terms of XP gained (including whatever score the game attaches to goals, assists, base damage, etc) - FFA should show kills, and - Team Deathmatch should show net kills. and sorted as such. It seems silly that the in game scoreboard is sorted using a different system to what determines MVP (except for FFA of course). Last edited by agouti; 06-25-2010 at 08:58 AM. |

I like that idea! so instead of kills it shows xp instead? that would give soo much more incentive for people to want to get the bomb on the base for the xp!

EDIT: I read somewhere that you're from Austrailia. I see that makes dodging an EMP next to impossible due to the lag. At first I thought you were just another whiner complaining over the loopy, but Loops truly is annoying with that much lag. Actually since the free weekend we actually have populated servers again! Woot!
I do need to get better about dodging EMP's but some people *cough* are a little to good at it, and seem to take great pleasure in hunting me D: Also: shhh off topic :P |

That idea about the XP based table is intriguing. xp gain is a better way to measure a player's effectiveness in-game than just raw kills v. deaths.

XP gain is pretty much just a flat kills + assists number, though. only 100 total xp comes from base hits. don't think this would change much except to make it less readable.

i like the idea of the XP.
BUT i dont like the idea of bunch of people who are all waiting for the bomb to spawn because base damage will give you allot of xp. Lets face it, people are going to compete about the xp just like the KDR. |

Ok therefore, I suggest you at least get the option to turn of KDR so that the ratios do not play such a role in how you play. Its totally a personal option to turn of KDR, but anyone who does turn it off will notice improvement with their game within time as you will would no longer be so conscious of ratios.

regarding OP: IMO the fix for this lies within...
![]() What matters (in order): 1. Winning 2. being Deadliest n. staying alive until you are 3x Gold, if u are using Ace Instincts (I'm talking about the long-haul here, not while you are climbing your way to 60, achievement farming, etc. In those cases, your kill streaks might also matter.) Alternatively, substitute "just having fun" for some or all of the above, depending on what kind of mood you're in. ![]() Ever since the first deathmatch games ever, it's been all about the "kill", and the "be killed" part is just an unfortunate side effect of being where the action is (which is how u get kills, btw.) That's just how I roll it. ![]() All this being said, software configurability is A Good Thing, and if the makers want to put an option in for this, that's great, too. |

didn't read the whole thread, but i totally support this idea.
Allow it to be turned off in client side. And if you turn it off, not only do you not see your own KDR, others cannot see your KDR. It will just be - - -, while they can still see your name on the list and the X mark if you are dead. Once your KDR is invisible from yourself and everyone, you stop giving a damn about it and actually playing the game. if you can't see your own KDR while other can, it sometimes kills your EGO/pride if you were concentrating hard to actually playing the game rather than whoring! haha. |

Tigs is awesome but I think that idea is a little overcomplicated... I don't see what is wrong with just working the scoreboard to show only whatever score/figure/stat determins MVP?
It has improved teamwork in TF2 a huge amount, you very rarely see people ratio whoreing now they can't be excibitionist about it. |
