Default Patch: July 13th, rev thrust buff, control options, voice chat, bug fixes

================================================== ===============
July 13th, 2010

Updated tbd_asteroids
Updated tbd_underpark

"Mouse Navigation: Turning and Throttle" - can now override the mouse-based throttle at any time by pressing the Throttle-Up/Down keys (allows mouse users to utilize the "Reverse Thrust" perk)

"Reverse Thrust" - increased acceleration by 10% and reduced energy consumption

Added voice support to chat rooms, please test using Friends -> Host chat - Bind the push to talk button under Options->Controls->Chat Room (Default is middle mouse)

Added "Lock Gamepad Config" to Options -> Controls: check this box to prevent reinitialization of default gamepad bindings when controllers are temporarily unplugged

Server Launcher now writes a PID file containing server_launcher's process identifier to ~Altitude/servers/server_launcher.pid upon startup and restart

Fixed a few bugs

We asked for a buff, now it happened. I personally don't use the perk, but thank you for being so attentive to the players needs. ^^

Revthrust buff means we can probably shave a few secs of some coop records! Who's with me?

EDIT: I get error trying to create voice chat too.

Also, it informs me that I'm behind a firewall. Of course I'm behind a firewall, internet security is important to me. Is there some kind of workaround that will let me use voice chat?

Another problem. What does it not support?

Mumble doesn't have any issues with my sound card or mic, why does this?

Reverse boost is good stuff, seems significantly better at bomb-running than it used to be from several games in ladder server.

Whether it's actually viable or not, time will have to tell...but either way, yay for improving one of the most fun perks!

nice update for rev thrust. Voice chat not supported for mac and or if you have a firewall, nothing...nothing will get me to take my fire wall down.

o btw, i noticed names on your friends list no longer sit in the middle of the boxes but at the bottom instead! I don't think this was intended, but it looks way better in the middle!

The layers were optimized to hopefully make it so that people won't get those graphical glitches they were getting before.

So, anyone who was having a problem with this map before, can you play it and post whether the problems have been resolved?

I don't really feel the 10% accel, but the fact that you don't lose energy when revving is pretty great, basically means I fly everywhere backwards now like a true freak

Does the 10% accel also extend to faster decel and thus faster entry into rev? Because that's what's key

We use OpenAL 1.1 to capture audio from your microphone. You're sound drivers dont support OpenAL 1.1

Hosting a chat room is like hosting an Altitude server, other people will not be able to join your chat room if you're behind a firewall. You can still join a chat room hosted by someone else.

i've tried the voice chat out a few times, but the volume always seems very low whenever i talk or hear other people talk, and most of the times people can't hear me. Even when i do the microphone test it is very low, is there a way to increase the sound?

OSX users having trouble with voice chat should try installing the OpenAL library. No idea if it will work, since I don't use voice chat, but that's the codec the voice chat uses.

Default widescreen

Karl and Lam, have you guys put any more thought into widescreen support? I just bought a new monitor for a laptop and I'd like to take advantage of it for gaming purposes as Altitude is the only computer game I play.

This issue has been addressed numerous times - the problem with widescreen support is it gives you an unfair advantage over those who don't because you can see more of the map than everyone else. =(

It has also been said that wide screen is far more common than 4:3 is nowadays, so having 4:3 as the standard makes no sense. Making wide screen the standard view for the game and adding black bars or stretching for 4:3 resolutions would make very much sense.

As evidence: http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey
>60% of users in the Steam hardware survey have wide screen, compared to the <40% with 4:3 or 5:4. The percentage of wide screen resolutions vs "square" resolutions is also rising every month in the survey.

Also, maps are wider than they are high, so this means that more vertical display are also makes sense game play wise.
