Default ball_basketball

King of Firery Ice has made a basketball map. The foreground and background are a little to indistinguishable but it's a fun map.

Download it here.

Ugly distracting uncentered pictures are... well, ugly, distracting, and uncentered.

I'd like this map far more if you just cut all of the junk pictures out of it, the background looks fairly nice.

Krawz's puppy is a design element that doesn't distract from the general play of the map. 12 basketball-related jpegs do distract.

I think if this was a standart ball map with upwards facing goals and those baskets where you can only score by throwing the ball from the up side, it would be a nice ball map. This way I think it's only a fun map for those FUN MAP servers.

I had the idea, King of Friery Ice executed it, if anyone with more map making knowledge wants to give a shot at a really playable version, I'm all for it.

I think you should replicate the football map if you want to do a basketball map... i.e. a clean graphic of a basketball court. With upward facing goals of course. It might be interesting to have spawns at bottom too, so that it's harder to defend high arcing shots, just like in basketball.

Well, this was my original idea:

But as you can see, I can't even put a effing background on the map without the planes disappearing behind the background (I tried planes on layer 5 and bg on layer 1 and background on layer 9, none worked). I also couldn't add anything to the paralax layer. So that's what I got.

Download it here, feel free to do whatever you want with that.

Oh, I had the same problem earlier. All you have to do is right click on the view editor, make a new view, and make it so it's the first layer in the list in the view editor. You can put your background there.

Edit: Here's the thread for reference. http://altitudegame.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4016

What the hell. I thought I'd give it a shot.

Here's my take...

The goals are currently not hidden by the baskets, but that's an idea. The screen doesn't show them, but they are upward facing like the original concept.

Nice graphics, but a little to easy to score this way.

I think it'd play the same as the football map, but even harder with the upwards facing goals. So much of that map is played at the bottom of the screen.

I'm thinking the other version might be too easy to defend.
No big deal, it was fun giving it a shot (pun unintended, but left in intentionally).

I intencionaly put the goals higher to make it harder. Also those bars add some dificulty, without them is too easy to make long shots.

Default Why so addictive

why is it that so many people are keep talking about "a ball course that nets are facing upwards" like seriously try making a ball labyrinth or something you could get really confused in or something or like "PONG" version of ball were there's nets all on the other side of the lvl or like air hockey were you got to deflect the ball of the walls. something a little more amusing and challenging.
i played a ball game and its just like on team get the ball a couple seconds later "DING!" over and over again. i've played 1 game were it had to be a fight to get a goal. and try to make it so no one rushes you when game starts

There is already a map ball_labyrinth. You could make a different version, but...

Default just checked it

i just checked out the ball labyrinth and i meant something more like fiinding your own way around everything and dead ends. like a puzzle. i didn't mean a lvl called "the ball labyrinth" i meant an actual labyrinth you ball in.

you know what i mean right.

I actually found and downloaded a map that the entire end field is a goal, it's called 4th and 10.

Also, if you've only played one game of ball where you had to put up a fight, you either haven't played much ball yet, or the players in said games were fairly new.

New version here, see the screenshot:

Does anyone knows how to get rid of those red lines on the screenshots taken by the map editor?

Default red lines

it means its a Physical object (collidable) i know this because when you select the object and make it so that the object isn't collidable it' not highlighted red.

You find a place to upload the map and the images (see where other people uploaded theirs), then you create a topic here on the forums.

For ****'s sake datadude, use google, or read the wiki, or look at other threads to see what sites they use to host maps.

I'm all for helping newbies, but you ask dozens of questions with seemingly no interest in solving problems yourself. If you don't want to take the time to solve your own issues, it's hard to convince others to take the time to help you.

The mental process should look like this:
1. Look at other posts, see how they did it
2. Read the wiki on creating a map (stuck to the map making page)
3. Google it
4. Post a thread on the forums AS A LAST RESORT

Try things in the 1 to 4 order and not the 4 to 1 order and you might have more success in getting **** done.

Additionally, as an fyi, a ball_labyrinth already exists. I would recommend picking a name that doesn't match one of the dozen maps that already exist, seeing as how people won't be able to download and use your map and the preexisting one simultaneously due to the name conflict
