Default New Large FFA Map - Hex

EDIT:I am currently working on a prettier version of this map with all your parallaxes and textures and such. Gameplay wise, it is identical. Yet somehow I think it'll see more play.

I manned up and made a large FFA map. It has a very simple design but not a random one. People definitely seem to enjoy it, though consensus is that it needs graphical work.

Please note: This map is designed for 10-20 people, you will want at least 7. A great map to have on your server for people to vote over to when things get crowded, a worse one to have on regular rotation unless you're usually full.

Attached is the map and a picture. It is textureless so enjoy the small file size and clean look.

Oh, and if you're wondering, there's a big bomb in the middle that spawns every 2 minutes. Expect a surge of people about then. Everyone loves a big bomb.

Edited: Map is now named ffa_hex to match the Altitude naming convention, has slightly different powerup/spawn positions, and has gray names and smoke trails instead of black. If you downloaded the earlier version named Hex replace it with this one (ffa_hex.)

I think I'll add this one to my rotation, seems like a fun map design.

instead.. i was about to ask why you can't reach the outside.. seems like wasted space to me.

I was skeptical at first but I played it last night and it's a lot of fun. Probably the best large FFA map. Make each hexagon a different color!

I've mentioned this before but here it is again:

We use LZMA (a waaay better compression than zip) so actually zipping the maps makes them larger... insignificantly so but still

zip: 8,014 bytes
altx: 7,892 bytes

that's right a whopping 122 bytes of overhead for zipping! it took me .0000000001 seconds longer of download time.

Karl: Unfortunately the forum doesn't allow .altx as an uploadable file type, just zips and various picture formats. Might be something to look into, especially as all but the most sparsely texture maps won't fit under the file cap for upload. I know you've expressed previous concern about filesharing but I don't think a 2mb limit on just altx files will cause a ruckus, though obviously it's your call.

ah, I had forgotten about that restriction. Which also brings up another point - the wiki is a great place for organizing all these community maps

wouldn't it be nice if all community maps were organized on one page?
