Default maps please

Someone make grasslands please, the prettier the better (I hope whoever did the art for lost_city will do grasslands too eventually, id like to play it sooner though).

Other maps would be nice too.(team maps preferred since that's what is supported).

reply with link, or send an email with it attached to argonide@gmail.com.

There's a map maker included with the game; in your start menu folder run "Altitude Editor"

I tried making grasslands, but I can't figure out the textures, and I don't remember exactly how it looked nor the exact size, so I gave up and made this instead.

A hundred mini-turrets=lots of fun, especially when you start a chain reaction of turrets exploding. This map would actually give people a reason to destroy the turrets before even attacking the base.

The only problems one might encounter is lag because of the hundred turrets firing at once, but my computer is pretty crappy and I've only experienced one noticeable hiccup.

Even in this screenshot I'm getting 65 FPS.

Tmm3k, check Map Editor Questions for info on how to set up textures.

You put your images in either of the editable level's "images" or "textures" subdirectories, reload the map, and then place them using the "Create Geom" window.

Yeah, I got that far, but I had a hard time with repeating textures. There would always bee a block of transparent pixels between each texture. And then I just made the texture bigger by copy/pasting it a bunch and I ended up with a big block of granite that my plane could fly behind and then I'd hit a wall at some point because of the polygon I traced.

But I think the Map Editor thread will help, I don't know why I didn't see that before. And also, now that I think about it, I could just trace out the texture in a photo editing thing, but give it a blue background and just move the texture to the bottom layer of all the objects.

But the grass was the easy part.

I seem to remember something about textures having to be perfect squares and powers of 2. Maybe this is still the case?

Edit: yup

Texture images must have power-of-2 dimensions [16x16, 32x256, 512x512, etc] and must not exceed 512x512 pixels.
I feel dumb. This will make things a lot easier. Thanks Lams.

Also, what were the original dimensions for grasslands?

I have the old altitude, so i can find the original dimensions of Grass.
I'll post them here if anyone wants to make a grasslands.

I am going to make a really basic one tomorrow. And figure out Skyserver again as well.

Someone needs to make a pretty grasslands later though. please.

thanks sky. Geometry is ok. Like i said before i don't like the rock texture, but whatever. Ceiling shouldn't be damaging.

If anyone wants to edit sky's level you should be able to extract the .level file and textures from if you rename the .ex_level file to .zip . (I haven't tried editing a file this way but it could work, maybe if you manually re-add textures?)

For the sizing, don't forget that the planes are a bit larger now. You'll want to scale the map size up by the same percent to get the same feel. Dunno exactly how much that is, though... Lam?

i purposely made it this size, so it wouldn't scroll. because the old one didn't scroll either. so there.

I am recreating the grasslands and am almost done, texture wise it looks alright I will have to find better textures later, but scale size and placement is really close to original (scaled up to make it seem more like it).
I will post it here when I am finished.

Planes are ~50-60% larger (each plane is a little different given the art of the model etc). The old Altitude ran at 800x600, new Altitude is 1024x768 which is ~64% more viewable space.

Here are the grasslands I have created. The first looks better but since so many people complained it vertical scrolls I made a reduced size version. Let me know what you think!

Here is a link to download it. (This one looks really nice I spent alot of time on it)
Reduced Version here is a link to download it. (This one looks good and is a reduced size and does not vertical scroll, the top one is better)

heres the exported level file(2.05kb):

and heres the editable folder:

Also, heres a utility that will let you convert maps from the old version to the new version:
