Map editor not doing anything...
Hi,
I just reinstalled Altitude (Steam) after a hiatus. The map files were all still there (Steam tends to keep those things around even after an uninstall). Every time I try to do anything in the editor, be it 'open file' or 'new map' or 'import map', the program will just sit there and act like I didn't ask it to do anything at all. The only button that seems to work as intended is 'exit' :| I didn't have problems with the editor when I was using before my uninstall, about 2 months back. |

Probably a video driver issue. One of the recent nvidia releases broke the editor (not sure what they did) -- but the latest beta I tried is working fine. You should be able to roll back or upgrade to the newest beta drivers.

My laptop uses one of those Intel integrated graphics drivers, GMA4500MHD to be specific.
I hadn't actually installed any new drivers since I bought the computer in February, unless they installed automatically... Actually, when I checked a few moments ago there were new drivers (released in March, from what I can tell). Installing those had no effect on the problem. |

Please submit a bug report (launch the Altitude game client, press F1 to open the console, reportBug, submit) with a description of the problem and I'll take a closer look.

Okay, report sent.
Accidentally filed it under 'video /driver problem' but the description is clear enough. |

Any insights into what the problem might be?

It looks like either the last map you edited is corrupt or there's a video incompatibility. To test the first possibility please try this:
1) Delete the file C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\altitude\editor\alt-edit-config.xml 2) Launch the editor It should open up with a blank map, and the UI should work. Opening whatever map you were working on will probably return the program to a broken state. |

I tried deleting the config.xml file just now anyway, though. Still no changes :/ |

Weird -- for one last test you could try the standalone version from http://nimblygames.com/test/altitude.exe -- otherwise I think it's probably video driver related.

Tried the standalone... no luck, same issues. Trying to create a new map makes the whole thing just freeze up, had to force quit through the task manager again.
Could this have anything to do with the Sept. 30th patch, which featured a few map editor changes? I went on hiatus in mid-August and came back early October. The editor worked fine before I left, and now doesn't. Is there a way I could 'patch' this standalone version to a pre-September 30 version? Or can I download an unpatched version from somewhere? (Or was the standalone version you gave me already unpatched?) The video compatibility thing seems strange and unlikely to me, since I didn't actually update any drivers after I left. |

There were no meaningful changes to core map editor tech in the last 6 months -- new incompatibilities are very likely related to changes on your computer (hardware or drivers).

So in a moment of 'what the hell, why not' I decided to try running the editor by right-clicking and selecting 'run as system administrator'.
...and it worked. Don't ask me why, because I have no ****in' clue. |
