Can someone explain to me the appeal of the Football map? It's gained a massive following with the newest generation of players and despite multiple attempts to appreciate the map, I can't understand why people enjoy.
I've been kicked from multiple dedicated football servers for trying to figure out why Football is a good map and still have not yet received a decent answer.
Does this map (if you can call a blank area a map) contain some hidden meta layer that I can't comprehend? From what I've seen, it's simply a map for noobs and kill whores.

Can anyone shed light on this situation?

It's simply people's differing tastes of play. Some are elitist and hang around the ladder/capt game server, while others are more casual and enjoy the ****fest of open space.

I blame the "Noobs Enjoy Playing Loopy" hypothesis. Noobs like loopy (go into any bouncy server, over 50% of the players will be loopy). What map is loopy good at? Football

oh and because turning is wicked hard when you're learning to play

as is getting kills

as is scoring

all of these things are very easy on football

Nope. Miranda is still easy. :x

Fly into enemy spawn. Kill them all. Repeat as needed. Most of them aren't very good in close quarters (hence they like such a large map), so you can usually stay up there indefinitely.

Sure the people in there can't compare to real ball/tbd players but football has its own niche of players of which some are pretty good. Football is all about passing and finding openings, it has less to do with the ability to fly and shoot (although it does help). Last night i played a game where my team had people with like 50ish kills on top and the other teams leader had 10 and they were winning 10-1, the map just takes a different set of skills to be fun.

it seems to me to be a learning map. learn how to pass and to shoot the ball into the goal.

since football has been blacklisted from all the good servers, i actually really enjoy playing football now. ball in its purest form, perhaps... either that, or nostalgia has distorted my memory.

Let a teammate do that. The only people on their team actually playing the game will be the ones that don't engage you.

although i was in a randa yesterday and these 2 bombers were whoring on the other team so i switched to loopy and pulled a good old sinstar ratio correction

i prefer the football servers because unlike most other public servers, the majority of players are trying to win

only yours skills/team spirit make the difference
if the teams are good, very very fast game

I just can't see this as a hard map. The only thing that would make it "hard" to score is the endless spamfest that goes on. There are no obstacles or anything to hide behind to make a play. To me this map is just "lets throw it from half court and see if I get lucky enough for it to go" or "I hope I can carry this thing to the goal from half court without getting raped by 20 people." I don't know I guess for new people its fun but I just don't see the fun in it.

20vs20 is too much for this map, better is 7vs7, is become really tactic

Hiding is a strategy for a lot of planes, and not having a method of escape to regenerate defeats the purpose of the repair drone.
I've heard the argument that the map is based solely on individual and team skill but guess what, so is every other map. Footballers make it sound as if the map causes a certain team to win, that's an incorrect assumption and an insult to the mapmakers who meticulously design maps to be as balanced and varied as possible.
The reason why it's the hardest map for you is because of its ridiculous size and the fact that any plane that can rapidly spam will always be dominant. If you played more, shall we say, sanctioned maps, you would understand that the different planes are suited for different playing styles and locations and that the planes that are ordinarily dominant on the wide open expanse that is football are put much more in check.

Try TBD_green on the Prose server. It provides the same experience.
