Default Wont open or give error message on new laptop

I need help. Altitude will not open on my new laptop. I'm running Windows 7, 64-bit, with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650.

I tried the usual various combination under compatibility mode, but nothing works. The following is the log information.

Under log, in Altitude:

INFO [2010-11-25 08:56:25,628] [main]: Initialized logger: file=log\Altitude.log, level=DEBUG, pattern=%p [%d{ISO8601}] [%t]: %m%n, maxFileSize=100KB, maxBackups=1, wasInitialized=false
INFO [2010-11-25 08:56:25,678] [main]: Altitude is already running, failed to acquire lock: C:\Users\ELC\AppData\Local\Temp\altitude-game-run-lock.tmp

Under log, in Launch:

INFO [2010-11-25 08:57:09,712] [main]: Initialized logger: file=log\Launch.log, level=DEBUG, pattern=%p [%d{ISO8601}] [%t]: %m%n, maxFileSize=100KB, maxBackups=1, wasInitialized=false
INFO [2010-11-25 08:57:09,773] [main]: Launching 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Altitude\launch-game.xml', args=[]
WARN [2010-11-25 08:57:09,776] [main]: Launcher failed to load progress report from update\download\_update-progress.xml
INFO [2010-11-25 08:57:10,138] [main]: Launcher exited

Please help.

Please update to the latest video drivers directly from your manufacturer (e.g. ati.com, nvidia.com, or intel.com -- Windows Update does not provide suitable OpenGL drivers). Then reboot your computer and try again. If that doesn't work please email the contents of your ~Altitude/log directory to support@nimblygames.com and I'll take a closer look.

Oh, btw, I tried the Play Online Now option on
http://altitudegame.com/playnow. That doesn't work either.

I just noticed the following.
Each time I try to run the program from within the Altitude program directory, the following file is generated.

hs-err-pidxxxx.txt where xxxx are numbers from 564 to 6900. I'm hoping this will help an altitute technical guru solve this problem.

Please try the version from http://nimblygames.com/test/altitude.exe and let me know if it fixes your problems. You may need to reboot your computer before trying the new version.

I give up. It's too bad, because I loved playing this game on my old laptop.

From the error reports the problem appears to be a video driver incompatibility.

You can try downgrading to a previous driver release, or wait until new drivers are released and try again. Sorry for your trouble.

Thank you for looking into it. I'll try your suggestion of downgrading.

I almost had it running by running linux in a virtual box, but it froze during handshake. sigh.
