Default Cannot Run Map Editor

Hi guys, I have an issue - such that I am unable to submit a bug report from in game.

I have altitude (via Steam). I run Windows 7 64bit, with latest Nvidia drivers.
The game itself is fine. However on opening the map editor I get 'map_editor.exe has stopped working' and closes to desktop.

Would love to get this working, any help appreciated.

There seems to be a new, strange driver incompatibility with Nvidia+MapEditor

Please try the test build from http://nimblygames.com/test/altitude.exe and let me know if that version works.

Also, try running the program as System Administrator (right-click the shortcut or .exe and select 'Run as System Administrator' from the list). I had problems where the editor refused to do anything after I opened it, and this resolved the issue.

@lamster: Same error when using the test build.

@Silent skies: Thanks but that didn't work either - same issue.

FYI when opening the map editor you get the alti splash and then this:

It's a shame having bought through Steam I can't install on my linux partition, is there no way I can get Alti running on linux as a temporary measure?

You should be able to run Altitude on your Linux partition -- download the standalone version from http://altitudegame.com/download.html and then launch the editor.

If you want to use a Steam license to access the full version from Linux you'll need to run Steam (via emulation such as WINE, so that you can contact Steam's authentication servers). However, the map editor (which you can launch from the standalone installer linked above) doesn't require authentication.

I've tried running Alti via WINE and it runs like poop :P I didn't know I could use the map editor without authentication though, that should be good enough.

Micro I should cut your throat and steal your mac, there's no way my pirate butt can afford one of those shiny things!

YARR!

Annoyingly when using the Map Editor in linux, if I go to File -> New -> Map, the editor crashes - that is I cannot click on anything or type in any box <_<

This is on another machine (laptop running Ubuntu 10.10) with an ATI Xpress graphics chip. I've also tried this via a Ubuntu Virtual Machine on my PC (the one with the Nvidia card) and that crashes at the same point.

*cries*

Weird! Please launch the game (in demo mode is fine) and press F1 to open the console, reportBug, submit. I'm guessing there's a permission issue (are you running the editor with a user who has permission to create folders in [AltitudeInstallDir]/editor/maps?)
