Default Bowl Season

Well tomorrow starts the official bowl season. With the BCS there is always controversy and something to say. I know many people here have college allegiances or ties, so here is where you can root for your favorite school or bash on your hated rivals during the bowls.

I'm a huge razorbacks fan and we're going to kick some buckeye tail. Woo Pig Sooie!!!! Also, gotta root for auburn to beat the ducks. SEC represent!

Sidenote: good thing the Big Ten is re-evaluating their stupid division names.....leaders and legends lol

I'm looking forward to the 3rd annual Beef O'Brady's Bowl. Not the biggest game of bowl season but my school, Southern Miss, is getting a rematch against Louisville. We lost a heart breaker last season so we get a shot at redemption this year. And Oregon is gonna win. Its gonna be an offensive shootout since both teams have less than stellar defenses. I'm picking Oregon to win 45-38

Born and raised a WVU fan and it has been a weird last few years with us, but i am pretty happy the coaching change finally happened. Although I may be going to NC State for my graduate degree I think WVU will win this game. Also, I hope TCU beats wisconsin and I think Cam Newton is just too good and will top Oregon whose defense is not as good as some of the teams Newton just tore up in the SEC.

It doesn't matter how much Newton puts up, the ducks offense will score more

Arghhhhh damn you Spartan. The LSU - Arkansas game was (and has been for basically my entire college career) a huge disappointment. That said, gotta have that SEC pride and I think that anyone who says Oregon will come out the winner is just delusional. I'll be going to watch LSU at the Cotton Bowl, which should be a good game but I think we'll manage to win it.

Being a Gator fan, it's been a rough year. But after the past 4 years, I can't be too upset. Wondering about which direction we'll go under Muschamp. We've got Penn State in the Outback Bowl, hopefully we can end a dismal season on a high note.

As for the other bowls, I'm with the rest of the SEC fans (and people with average and higher IQs) thinking that Auburn should beat Oregon. *daydreams about Newton staying at Florida instead of transferring*.... right. The 3 bowls yesterday were all blowouts, hoping the rest might be better games, here's what I'm looking forward to:

Beef 'O' Brady's - Southern Miss's offense against Louisville's defense should be good
Hawaii Bowl - I can see Hawaii and Tulsa each putting up 50 in a shootout
Sun Bowl - Notre Dame and Miami for nostalgia purposes
Peach Bowl (I know it's the Chick-Fil-A now, but it'll always be the Peach Bowl to me) - Steve Spurrier vs. Florida State, nuff said
All the BCS Bowls except the Fiesta (unless UConn somehow manages to make that a game)

I honestly thought I would be alone on that one! And I will be bragging about my psychic powers when Oregon beats Auburn...and ignoring the whole thing if Auburn wins

At least we almost made the playoffs this year. D3 means that we're three times better than D1 right?

Oh, you know. It's only the conference with the past 4 BCS champions, the most BCS bowl game wins, the highest winning percentage in BCS Bowl games, and 6 teams (a full 50% of the conference) in the Top 25. No big deal. Basically it boils down to the fact that the SEC is the toughest conference, and every bowl win by an SEC team reinforces that fact. Plus, it makes me feel better when LSU goes 10-2 knowing that the two losses come against two of the best teams in the country. Maybe it even makes Caz feel better about the Gators...but then again maybe not :P

Playing LSU is always the most stressful game of the year. I'm always expecting Arkansas to screw it up or fail in that game. We've been lucky over the previous years to beat u guys, with last minute miracle TD throws and OT wins. Gotta respect u guys tho, no matter how much i hate purple n gold tigers :P. Hope u guys trash Mich St.!

There are good teams in the SEC, so good for you? What I don't get is why you identify with the SEC. It's a completely arbitrary collection of teams that play together, why do you feel loyalty towards it? It just gives people another avenue to declare their superiority to others. Like you said about Florida this year, it gives people with weak teams to be like, WELL AT LEAST SEC SPEED IS IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP LOLOLOL! My team sucks and I deal with it. I'm not going to take pride in wiscy beating TCU or OSU beating LSU.

The SEC isn't even the top conference this year... Auburn is potentially the best team, but what follows isn't as strong as the teams in the Big 10. Sure the bowl season will tell us more, but who really cares. I'll watch Mich St vs. Alabama because it has a great story line, but I dont really give two ****s if State loses. Bowls are all about matchups anyways. The Big 10 had been playing up in every single bowl matchup (i.e. Big10 #3 playing SEC #2) until this year, when they changed up some of the pairings. That automatically skews the outcomes.
Also, the reason the pairings were like that was because once upon a time the BigTen was thought to be the "best conference." Surprise! The title of strongest conference changes quite a bit!

I blame the BCS. Before the BCS, there was no need to root for your conference because it didn't matter if it was perceived as strong. In a playoff system it wouldnt really matter either. In the BCS, however, perceived strength of schedule means that fans of teams need to become fans of their opponents, which honestly makes no ****ing sense.

I don't see the problem with rooting for Auburn and the SEC in general if you like another SEC team. There's 12 teams in the league, so not everyone is going to be your most bitter rival. Obviously there are exceptions to the rule. If you're a Bama fan you're surely not rooting for Auburn or vice versa. The same with Florida-Tennessee or LSU-Arkansas. With the way the BCS is done now you almost have to have pride in your conference. The SEC is lucky to usually have 3-4 elite teams each year, with an undefeated conference champion being almost guaranteed a spot in the national championship. We'd like to keep it that way. So if that means throwing a little support to conference rivals to make the league as a whole look better, then so be it.

I'm trying to get tickets for the Sun Bowl. Notre Dame and Miami this year. I'm a Penn State fan. ND is my second favorite.

2 years ago the kids and I went to the Oregon State and Pittsburgh game. The game sucked, but we did set the world record for doing the YMCA. Ya we rocked it!

I guess if there are SEC fanboys, there are gonna be haters too. Count me in the latter group. Here is one of my reasons:

S.O.S. is a big reason people would root for the conference as a whole. obv a team that goes undefeated in the BigTen or SEC this year would look a lot better than a team that went undefeated in the BigEast for example, just because the competition in those conferences is tougher. It makes for a better argument when BCS rankings come around to place a team in a "tougher" conference ahead of one in a "weaker" conference, even if it has one more loss. So that's one reason to root for your league to do well in bowls.

But I also feel that people root for their conference because of regional pride. Most of the conferences are regionally aligned (BigTen - Midwest, SEC - Southeast, Pac-10 - West Coast, ACC - East Coast, Big 12 - Southwest/Central Plains) Anyway, there is a shared culture within these regions, and with anything, there is always competition between the regions. So when an SEC team beats a BigTen team, it gives bragging rights for the southeast over the midwest. I don't know how much that matters to some people, but I think it's definitely a factor in rooting for your conference.

If one of the two teams in the natl championship gets blown out, there will really be calls for the BCS's head. that was a great game.

idk i think it'll be close. But even though it should be a shootout because both offenses are awesome and both defenses blow pretty hard, I think it will be low scoringish too.
I think Oregon will come out on top with a final score of 34-31.

hmm i guess that's not realllly low scoring.

Not really. Oregon has the 25th ranked defense and Auburn has like the 20th ranked rush defense or something like that. Granted it doesn't sound like much but when you consider that there is around 120 programs, its not that bad. The key weakness is Auburn's secondary. If they can't keep up with Oregon's receivers then it will be a long day for the Tigers.

I think there's gonna be some points but not sure if it'll be a shootout. I think whoever gets to 30 first wins. Auburn 34-28.

The over/under on the game is like 74 points. Meaning that the teams will score a combined 74 points. I see this as a realistic possibility

Yea me too. I feel like it's gonna be a shootout in the first half - maybe 40+ points by halftime total. 2nd half tho i feel the defenses will adjust and turn it into a less of an offensive shootout.
