Default Additional Full-Screen Camera View For Spectators

Talked about this last night with Guava and a few people in ladder.

Basically, there'd be a camera view for spectators where you could see the entire span of the map in one view and watch the action that way. It may be impractical for large maps such as Asteroids or Mayhem2, but I feel it could add a cool spectator element to the game.

For example you could see how a teams offense/defense is working, or see if defenders have a chance at catching a person sprinting for goal.

Just a cool feature that wouldn't affect game-play much, but would make spectating a bit cooler.

VERY good idea, I would love this. and this is another way you wouldn't miss anything. If there were two bombs going at the same time you wouldn't miss anything.

It sounds like a cool idea, but would there be any concerns about teams being able to tell each other exactly what the other team is doing?

I know this already happens, but having to shift-scroll all around the map is a lot tougher than having a whole view of everything 100% of the time.

You could see when the other team grabs any type of powerup and can easily communicate who picked it up etc. Same with if the opposing team is pushing up, you can say to go down.

If that's not a worry, then +1

How is any of that a bad thing? It just adds a tactical standpoint to the game.

What about changing the powerup icons so that spectators can't see what powerup a player picked? Only show the blue bulbs or something.

Also, it would be wuvly if you could zoom in and out. You know, with the mouse scroll or something.

I agree, neutral spectators shouldn't know anything about power ups. Too much risk of a spy squealing intel to his friends in PM.

Don't limit the spectators' knowledge of powerups please. And I suggest enlarged name tags for the miniaturized planes.

I don't want to +1 this idea, I want to hug it and nourish it into fruition no matter how long it takes.

Agree. It's sometimes fascinating to watch how certain players maneuver after picking up certain powerups. We'd lose that if everything was a mystery until the powerup was deployed.

OK then how about disabling friend chat while in full screen mode? That would address the concerns while also enabling some cook spectating.

1. this wouldn't work because you would just switch back to tell them.
2. Let them see the powerups, we already can when spectating.
3. this is still an awesome suggestion and PLEASE add full-screen camera view.

A related note, I actually would like to see a radar. I actually think it would improve tactical play if one had a broader overview. The game would get stronger with trying to construct positional advantages more deliterately.

Then again, guessing the trajectory of folks correctly is part of the intrique. Perhaps it could be up to the particular server whether it is allowed or not.

In top level play many teams use mumble so it doesn't matter if you can't type as you can just speak it. In the past, teams have chosen a dedicated watcher who will announce who has what and when to push. This would make it easier to do things like that.

Nonetheless, it would be interesting for the spectators. I'd hope you could zoom in and out easily, though.

I think announcing is gay and really takes out from the game. I guess it's a matter of personal morals lol

Regarding the idea I'd personally like if there would be some kind of spec mode where you could choose the size of the screen. Basically the same as testviewscale that doesn't use the server to do it

Please please please no gaydar. We already have a big enough view on our screen, there's no need to broaden it imo.

Back on topic: I agree with stormich, if we had it so we could change the view scale in spec mode just for our computer it would be nice.

If you're really concerned about this:
Add an option like in Counter-Strike / HLTV to delay the feed a non-trivial number of seconds. Most (fun) servers can leave it set at 0, ladder or competition servers could set it to 180 seconds.

I would love this. It could help me see whole ladder games to learn techniques for semi-noobs like me.

I like this idea. Maybe even have personal view scale commands. I know admins can change the view for everyone, but maybe make it so that people can change their own

Yeah, but in 2010 when Alti still received regular updates.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see the full screen spec mode implemented, I just think it's very unlikely at this point.
