Loopy on tail - any tricks to dislodge?
I'm a demo player looking to buy at some point in the future. (I know, but, there's a recession).
I started off as a nade-spamming bomber, but have now become more proficient in a Loopy. Quite often I am tailed and have to fight to get them off and / or turn quick enough to fire back at them. I try things like using obstacles only to be chased round them in such a way that neither gains an advantage. Also I find that the time taken in turning around means I've been shot at a fair few times. Finally, throttle control does not help against proficient players, as they slow down too, and we instead have a rather sedate dogfight. It's a bit like Space Cowboys II, with Clint Eastwood in a cropduster shooting fireworks at a tired albatross. Any tips and tricks for getting 'em off my six, without having access to the flexible wings perk? |

Usually if a loopy comes behind you with a full volley of tracking/double missles, you are in trouble. Honestly, just try not to let one get behind you. If one is behind you and there is some distance between you and him, try after-burning away, he will be wasting energy shooting so he won't be able to catch up. This obviously only works if you already have some lead on him, otherwise you die before you can get away.

Basically the only way to beat a tailing Loopy is with an Explodet or Miranda. Unfortunately these aren't available to demo players, so you're stuck with just dropping walls.

the bomber's tailgun does wonders too.

general tips for dogfighting:
- in some situations, stalling intentionally can let you get an advantageous position. it takes practice to know when this is useful, though, and it's mostly just a biplane vs loopy tactic - if you have someone chasing and can't afford to stall, flying dangerously is your best bet. you're risking a crash, but risking a crash is better than being certain of dying to enemy fire. make as many turns as possible - this is why circling works, they can't shoot you with a straight shot if you're making a sharp turn. - this is sort of a subset of the last one, but doing a quick drop down and making a sharp turn very close to the ground will often let you swap positions with a chaser. people almost always will make a more conservative, earlier turn, and this can be the break you need. - keep dodging / afterburner towards friendly planes or turrets. circling in the middle of nowhere is a standoff - circling above your turrets will save your life. - keep an eye out for wall powerups. if you see one, afterburner to it and drop it in front of him, then immediately turn back around to finish him off. even if he dodges the wall, you can often get behind him. anyway, good luck! |

fly into teammates. It'll confuse the missiles and the loopy is likely to be disintergrated by everyone else.

90%+ of the loopys in the game atm are not very experienced players, if you know what you're doing when flying at full speed very dangerously, either the loopy player will crash, either he will stop chasing you. It usually works quite well. |

High speed and getting creative with the local geography is the key imo, stalling will only work against less experienced players aka most of them.

Thanks for the support, dudes! I'll practice my 'flying like my arse is on fire' maneuver and hope to beat you in a fair match when we next inhabit the virtual skies together in planes of different hues. |

just afterburn back to some teammates while flying in wavy patterns. you actually can outrun loopy missiles (and item missiles) this way and besides, the only way for a pursuer to keep up with you is to afterburn, leaving no energy for shooting you.

This only works under a very limited set of conditions but may increase your survivability. You will require:
1. Both planes to be flying relatively fast. 2. Both planes to be very close. 3. The loopy on your tail to be relatively inexperienced or have poor reflexes. It's easy though, as all you have to do is slam on the breaks and watch your helpless enemy fly right past you. If you're flying a non-recoiless biplane, you can combine that with a button mash to better decrease your speed. Alternatively, with the right timing, you could snag a kill out of it. I favour repair drones over flexible wings due to being too lazy to chase after health packs and fly back to base so it's not a good time to be me when there's a Loopy on my ass. If there are any obstacles around, I'll try to get them between myself and the Loopy even though doing so and not being overtaken requires me to use the afterburner and leaves me incapable of shooting. After that, it's down to skill or luck; the former being who makes the first mistake and flies into the obstacle and the latter being the team of the next player who shows up. Hope it helps. |

If it’s a “Rubber Walled” level I’ll often fly directly into one.
I’m not sure if this scares the opponent into thinking “This is one crazy fool, I ‘aint dog fighting with this nutter” or they have such tears of laughter I get to escape to safety |

You don't have reverse thrusters yet, but as a biplane I have occassionally started using that when a loopy is on my tail. When it works out, I jet behind the Loopy and hit him with a heavy cannon blast sometimes killing him, very sweet when it works. Usually if I kill him, I suicide also, but I'm getting better at it with practice. =D
To get better at reverse thruster I'll sometimes fly with nothing but reverse thruster for 5 or 10 mins at a time. Now when I pick that perk, its actually useful for me. It is definitely one of the more interesting perks if nothing else. I found that an explodet with a reverse thruster can function as a sort of semi-stationary battle copter, haha. |

The awesome thing about explodet+reverse is that you can switch the roles of missile/mines :P not very useful but o well.

well, there is only 1 true solution to any plane being on ur tail... Time anchor =D
then ur behind them and can se a charge shot (trickster), and dash combo to devastate their health -_^ |

well
thats just u ur pro with time anchor :P ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm always carry a wall with u. can stop missles. can stop bomb and bomb carrier. can stop anything. just fly into narrow place and put wall also doing a stalled turn will help. (only works if u have reverse thrust since throtle speed has to go down realy quickly) it will bring u down spinning and hopefully u have enough time to launch an emp at the other guy. turn back and afterburner away. |

If I'm an open level like Asteriods or Core, I'll drop into a stall and face backwards and let my chaser have it. If I'm lucky I'll get him, and if I'm even luckier I'll have time to recover and fly back to base for health...

Try to out manouver the loopy around corners, then slow right down and make them go through you or have to change directions. Loopy needs to shoot at you for a bit to kill you, so take a few hits then when they go through you let em have it. This only works when the loopy is very close. |

avoiding walls is harder then killing kuja.

Perhaps that may be true only on Asteroids after taking 3 thermo missles from 3 different explodets at the same time.

As a loopy user myself, the best advice I can give you is to use power-ups. The wall is the best when you're being chased obviously, but a quick turn and shield does the job too. That's what gives me most trouble when I'm chasing anyway.
If you don't have any power-ups, the best thing to do is afterburn away. And like other people said before, fly dangerosuly: go around obstacles, zig-zag and stuff. If they use EMP it's a whole different story. They have a big advantage. The best you can try is to stall and shoot them. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't but it's worth a try. |
