required resources per slot?
the wiki states 3KB/s per player slot, but what about CPU and RAM?
do the resources per slot increase as the total number of connected players increases? i.e. does a full 40 slot server use more resources per player than a full 20 slot server? roughly what kind of setup is required for a full 40 slot server? and 24 slots? and 14 slots? doing some number crunching so any info you can share from experience would be greatly appreciated! |

MEM: Altitude servers use 128MB of Java heap. Which equates to ~150MB of total system ram used. The start up of the JVM can take a lot of RAM ~300MB which can cause problems on virtual servers with less than 512MB of ram.
CPU: Running the 3 official servers in one process the CPU usage averages 5% (of a single core so really 1.25%) usage on a Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz... We've never had anyone not have enough processing power to run an Altitude server. Adding bots to a server will increase the CPU usage significantly. |

what kind of problems does the start up of JVM cause on a VPS with less than 512MB?
does each Altitude server use 128MB of Java heap regardless of the number of players per server? meaning a 14 slot server and a 40 slot server would both use 128MB of Java heap each (300MB of total system ram together)? |

A single server launcher (which manages 1 or more Altitude servers) will never exceed ~150MB of RAM usage. If you try to host too many servers in a single server launcher instance 1 or more of the servers will crash with an out of memory error.
If your VPS doesn't have sufficient RAM the server launcher will fail to start with an out of memory error. |

i followed the instructions here:
http://altitudegame.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1547 and the server is eating up ~300MB of memory long after (30+ mins) launch... is 300MB the norm now? or should it still be using only about 150MB? |

how are you checking memory usage? The official servers have been running a long time and that's all they take.

top
when the altitude server isn't running usage is ~19MB |
