Bladder Hosting
It would be really awesome if we could switch one of them to euro hosting.
I'm not a eurofag, but it seems pretty obvious that a large percentage of of serious ball kids are from Europe and would benefit from this. More often than not, I join bladder and find that ~9/12 people have ~150 ping. I would happily sacrifice my good ping for the better of the ladder. I cannot count the number of times I've tried to catch a ball and have it fly right through me. This lag routinely ruins games, prevents goals/blocks, etc. Obviously this won't fix all lag, but it would be a step in the right direction as I have seen more and more european alti players emerge over the last year. And if the majority of players have low ping, that's really all I can ask for. Hopefully somebody important reads this thread. I don't know who's paying for the ladder hosting, but yeah. This is not a QQ rage thread btw, just something I was thinking about. ps. tbd eu servers would be nice just in case, but doesn't seem as pertinent |

This has been requested many times over in the past and the issue has mainly been of not being able to find/pay for a reliable server in Europe that has all the necessary requirements for ladder. We are currently looking into a few options right now and we'll let you know if any of them turn out.

wouldn't the best solution for everyone be a server in the NY/NE region

A server in the NY region would be slight better than one in chicago (a bit closer to europe), and there are indeed a ton of servers in the east coast we can use, but the gains we get from moving the server slightly close to europe would be offset by the losses incurred by having a ****tier server. We used to run on a server on the east coast (back when we were using lam's vps) but it was rather unreliable (every so often it'd get into a hissy fit and just kick everybody out).
I think everyone underestimates how much of a monster phong's server is and how hard it is to find a server that has specs on par with that one (which we will need. It'd be easy to pay $10/a month for a mediocre server in europe to use but it wouldn't be better than just having euro players use phong's server). |

I do remember the trainwreck that was the NE server lol...the supernova death explosions every 30 seconds are a great memory.
The only problem is basically what you just said...phong's server is obviously incredible. I can't recall any EU servers that have been stable enough for me to even pretend being competitive on. The {arr} and Ledow servers are likely the closest to that goal in my opinion, but even they result in some terrible spikes at times (like, 90 on a great day...180+ on a bad day). What pings do you Americans get on LF servers? I'm asking this because LF servers are based in Germany and get really good ping for EU players.
I'm not quite sure how good US pings are, especially since US is a vast country with varying pings depending on your location and the way your traffic is routed. The Hetzner.de server costs something like around 20 euros a month iirc, (second hand information, I've not verified it myself). The server itself I'm sure is good enough for hosting altitude, the link and traceroutes to the US is what is interesting. If there is stop over HOP in France, the difference in EU pings would be marginal but US pings might be noticably better... Can't say too much more without knowing the hop locations. |

Durham New Hampshire 99. (My school has private dark fiber lines though which sorta are cheating).
I have access to a server in london (and possibly paris) that I am volunteering to turn access over to the ladder if you would like to use it. If people are connecting okay to it, I will give it the ladder to use. It is called "London Evaluation Server", it's at 46.166.129.26:27276 currently setup to cycle through the |ball| and |tbd| map list. 1 bot, it will spec at 4 players. Let me know what you think if you want it. I can make changes to more carefully reflect ladder standards, for now can everyone see it, and do EU players get a better ping? (And can US players play there okay?) I have a ping of 81 to the server for reference |

All urban terror, all have B3 connected (log parser in python, plus mysql) attatched, total cpu useage for the entire box 12%. Altitude take 1-3% cpu and 1.8% of RAM.

yea i wanted to say ideally east coat of usa server/west coast europe as in the 5/6 hours period in evenings when ladders are most popular it would be ideal to get a middle ping between EU/Amercas. I have been on euro servers before an noticed americans got around 100 ping which imo is very reasonable.
