political discussions forum rule

why can't we have political/religious discussions in the water cooler if we want?

I don't mind political discussions in general, but that one was getting a bit out of hand. I simply quoted the forum rules for the thread close.

I've been given the job by the devs to enforce the forum rules they set forward. A thread discussing the merits and faults of Jihad clearly violates the rules as they are currently defined and was closed for that reason.

The Forum Rules are similar to the ladder rules in that they're open to interpretation and modification. If you think a change should be made regarding these types of discussions in the Water Cooler, ask the admins directly via the Suggestions forum.

Because they invariably turn ugly, and are filled with posts by people who have no intention of discussion, just spamming their viewpoint.
