Hosting a new mc server.

The basic rules of my server are simple:
1) Don't bug people
2) Don't steal or destroy stuff
3) Be cool

Ask me for ip and to be whitelisted if interested

Thanks for making this thread Mike. I guess at some stage a group of us will club together to build something truly magnificent. That's where it'll come in handy as we may log in/out at different times and can leave information regarding the whereabouts of crafted items or stacked mineshafts.

For now i guess we have spanned out and are concentrating on getting our homes and their eco systems in place which is great!

Mled and i have opted for a predominantly stone and glass approach built into the mountainsides!

What a great game and only in beta!

I haven't played MC in a while, but I plan to after exams. I never got onto g0g's server, because I kept getting some plugin error, so hopefully I'll have more luck this time.

I get stuck at the connecting to server screen, and then get timed out. Did the IP change since I last played on there?

Yes it has the new ip is 174.140.163.202

Tried to log on numerous times today and kept getting this pop up:

Connection lost

Internal exception: java.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out.

Just trawled the MC forums and this seems to be a common problem, one person suggested deleting and reinstating the white list.

Another person suggested it's because the server is updating a lot of chunks, but i'm guessing that it wouldn't take that long?!

Out of ideas =(

I get exactly the same error. My only guess is that somehow people from the UK have too much awesome to fit in your server.

Edit: Well, looks like the vps may be down. If that's the case, it's out of our hands until they can get it back up :/. I'll keep you guys posted here

That's what's so weird about this. Gog's server is fine, I just came from it. This is a weird problem that will need either Mike intervention or a miraculous self-cure :/. Gog's is running though, and it appears most of the plugins work.

Would I be able to get in on this action? I know we are unfamiliar, but I know some of your regulars. I've been looking for a new MC server since my old one shut down a month ago. I'm not a dick (some may disagree), I hate retarded towers, I don't steal, I love cave diving/general map exploration (I can refrain if you are concerned with map size), I build my minecart rails underground, Ive played since early december (I played, alpha cuz I'm cool like that).

Currently the server is running on Normal or Hard and has some craft bukkit mods. However, Mike is the only admin and he does not spawn items, so we still mine our own stuff.

Hilarious misfortune ahoy:

No one has griefed the server, here's what has happened.

I was about to decorate my house with various lava flows encased in glass, I thought you could make a lava spring with a 1x3, like you can with water, but it wasn't working, so I tabbed out to go look it up online. About 30 seconds later a creeper wanders up to me, explodes rupturing my lava container, and pushing me into it, killing me. I die and a huge chunk of my (wooden) house has burnt down by the time I get back. Also all my diamond equipment was destroyed in the lava. Thankfully no one elses stuff was damaged and I put the lava column out with water.

Now, I know you are thinking: Foolish child! Never go AFK near lava. Here's the thing, I was in my completely sealed and monster free house which is incredibly well lit. NOTHING CAN SPAWN IN THERE. I have no idea how the creeper got in, unless he lagged through the door or something.

The funny thing is that I was just popping on for 15 minutes for some light relief - I had just done my first engineering exam and it went worse than I could possibly have imagined.

Yeah same here. Also when building my masts I often see creepers chillin in your house.
