Default Leaving?

Why are so many peeps 'leaving' Altitude? Tmic, aya, vesu, ajuk, sinstar. I'm sorry if I missed ya I don't wanna clog this thread.

And how can you actually 'leave' Altitude? I mean you can play it as casually as you want. You can come back to play it for simple half an hour and get out again. If you're leaving because you're bored with the game say so, but don't make up excuses about doing stuff inrl because you should be able to spare 30 mins for a game of alti per week. If not I should get some oxygen, heat and fuel because I need to start a fire and kill you with it.

So everyone's thoughts on why people are leaving?
(Drama++? Conspiracy? Attempt to troll the master trolls? Srsly leaving 4 life business?)
“You never really leave a place or person you love, part of them you take with you, leaving a part of yourself behind.”

I honestly tried to leave Alty twice, and it was because of "IRL" stuff. I exaggerated a little bit by saying 'I don't know when I'll be back', and I came back 2-3 weeks later. I wasn't trying to be an 'attention w***e' as some of you put it, I just did some miscalculations.

And, I don't know if I can leave Alty permanently, I'll always be around.

I was just about to make this thread myself, all of these "leaving" threads are just silly. Log in or don't log in as much as you like but you can't "retire". Altitude is not a job, its not a career path, it does not have a paycheck. All those good bye threads serve is to tell all their friends that they don't want to be their friend anymore.

Its saying "I am not going to log in and talk to any of you anymore" flat out. Its just how I see it, that crap is hurtful and I do not like it.

So you think it'd be more appropriate to just disappear?

Don't see why making a spectacle here is better then just telling the people you are concerned about privately. People don't like to see our game get smaller it makes nobody happy.

The quote is absolutely true, Boko. Nice usage.

When you really love something or someone and have spent a HUGE quantity of time on it, part of you will always love it/him/her. Whether the "it" be Altitude, or your first "true love" girlfriend, you can't escape it.

I would bet almost none of the Altitude players who have logged more than a few hundred hours and were actually integrated into the community/forums and made friends have left the game/forums/friends completely. Even jerks like Beagle still browse the forums and occasionally pop into games.

In my opinion, all of these "I'm quitting" threads are hurting the community. One person makes an I'm quitting thread, mentions a bunch of names in shoutouts, and gets a bunch of attention from others for it. "Oh SoandSo, I'll miss you so much, blablabla". Then others want the same attention and make a similar "I'm quitting" thread and it starts kind of a chain reaction of quitters.

If real life actually gets busy, then you don't get on so much. Big deal. When my life gets busy, I might not actually open alty for a week, or two weeks or longer. But I check the forums every day or two at least. That takes very little time and when making useful posts like the majority (>50%) of mine are, it helps keep the community alive and lets your friends know that their friends are still around, which keeps them coming back. Community and friendship are what really keep Altitudians coming back for hundreds and thousands of hours. "I'm quitting/Goodbye forever" betrays and weakens that community, especially when coming from some of Altitudes most vocal(for better or worse), active and well known players.

Edit: I'm defining "useful" in this instance as "Posts that answer questions in a helpful way, voice personal perspective on debatable subjects intelligently, without defamation and degradation of others, and aren't outright spam or trolling in any thread besides one's own clan thread."

Heh good joke but well spoken otherwise. You very nicely summed up my feelings about such threads.
