Default Windowed mode hangs briefly

I have been playing windowed mode for a good while and it was perfect.

I think after the most recent patch tho - my machine has started freezing, but only when not in fullscreen. I blame the patch - but really it could be the latest ATI drivers.

I was using a radeon 5870 (and it was hanging) - but I swapped today for a 6870 and I have the exact same issue. I am using the very latest drivers - thats why im saying if its not the recent game patch then maybe its that.

Just wondering if anyone else has the issue. It freezes/hangs just long enough to make it unplayable - maybe 2/3 seconds - by the time you come back u have crashed into a wall.

Maybe nobody cares (no pun intended) but it seems 11.3 ATI drivers are fine. Anything newer has the issue. (Win7 64 bit, radeon 6870)

Was gonna update my ATI drivers today and I've 5850x2. hmmmm...

I've never seen this 2/3 second stutter but (as you've seen yourself yank) in windowed mode there is (and always has been) a millisecond stutter. Actually, come to think of it I have noticed the occasional maybe half/full second stutter recently.

Well you would notice this. It can be for up to 5 seconds.

Its like, if you dragged the window from one side of the monitor to the other - the way it hangs while its moving. But wihtout moving the window it randomly happens. I normally run the latest ATI drivers, but not when it messes with my Alti.

Did you try the ATI drivers from their website?
Look for a link for alternative drivers, and choose version 11.3

I dont think the issue is with Altitude, but more to do with the drivers for the Radeon cards.

I'm now having this issue as well on my MacBook Pro 13" (mid-2010), after I've upgraded to Lion :-( Full screen mode works fine there.
