Default Patch: July 3rd, balance tweaks, misc improvements, and bug fixes

================================================== ===============
July 3rd, 2011

Reverse Thrust - reduced energy consumption from 110% recharge rate to 83% recharge rate (planes now recover energy while reversing)
Rubberized Hull - reduced energy loss and turning debuff from EMP by 20%
Biplane (All Forms) - reduced energy loss and turning debuff from EMP by 20%

New challenge (Steam summer promotion) - "Electric Firefighter" - "Interrupt an enemy's afterburners with Loopy's EMP grenade."

Moved "Select next map" vote popup to avoid overlap with the award screen MVP

Friend chat windows (Menu -> Friends) no longer consume the escape key allowing easy toggling between gameplay and chat

Added hidden config option to change the opacity of bottom left kill log messages (edit config/options.xml: generalOptions ... killLogOpacity)

Fixed a few bugs

woot. so does this mean that a biplane with rubber hull now has emp's effects reduced by 36%? or just still 20%?

yes, 36% is the total reduction for a rubber hull biplane

Holy .... brb testing the new biplane.

Also, this hidden option is pretty interesting for video capture, but there's still something that I wanna see and that isn't there : all the effects of capturemode 1 but WITH the bottom left kill log. All the capturemodes remove this.

Pretty awesome, thanks. I think it would be wise to also add achievements for the remaining planes.

Heh, intersting achievement. It would be nice to see more...

On a slightly related note, would you consider suggestions from the community?

Hah the biplane buff, I remember someone saying that would be logical because they have no electronical equipment onboard.. Guess you went with that.

Awesome balance patch, just one question: does the rubberized hull + biplane buff stack additive or multiplicative?

Edit: got a bug for ya which I keep forgotting about: When you join server and the powerups aren't fully loaded yet you sometimes get the full opacity but it still takes ages for them to regenerate.

Case:
1. Hey I joined a server
2. Ooooh powerup almost recharged, it's blue and shiney and ****!
3. Wait why is it taking so long for this powerup to appear
4. ffs they're almost scoring!
5. ah I got the powerup finally!
6. goal for opposite team

Mmmh I'm a bit disappointed, a buff to biplane was not needed, now is less challenging and gratifying. A direct nerf to EMP making loopy more skilled to play would have been a more interesting path in my opinion and could have brought, also, some fun and challenge at playing loopy.

I have to +1 mssv here. I can't speak of rev thrust and rubber hull, both of which feature nil in my setups. Everyone was saying the same, or at least from what i saw, that loopy's emp was simply too effective. So idk what was the reasoning behind this patch, would be cool if you guys (Karl, Lam) could elaborate?

Biplane does just feel too easy now, but maybe i should give it some time idk.

Hopefully biplane sees more competitive play with this patch. Good job, Karlam.

Rubberhull reverse dogfighter as bombrunner/ballrunner? Hell yeah. (remember reverse thrust gives an insignificant speed bonus too)

http://nimblygames.com/wiki/index.ph...des#Dogfighter

Someone update the fact that it's easier for dogfighter to get out of a stall or w/e they did in some previous patch
??

No, all the complainers were complaining the same the issue was very divided though. I personally say it's fine as is.

Good idea but this could be very dangerous if done by accident..

I think anyone who complains that biplane is OP now is living in a world of their own, the buff for rev/bip was miniscule

The buff for Bip is tiny, I don't think you can say the same for Rev.

You're right, I'd have to be some kind of expert on reverse to say something like that

After playing it for a couple hours I can safely say the buff does not change how the perk is used

@elixir, I don't mean to be stuck up, I just mean that before the patch you barely lost energy while reversing, and now you barely gain it. Now I only played for a few hours, but the only way I can see that changing anything is if you literally use reverse thrust all the time as your primary mode of travel, because you'll never lose energy and that's neat for that.

For any other situation I encountered, the buff does not change how the perk is played for me. The energy you gain while reversing is next to a standstill, meaning you still have to stop revving after you fire, just like before the patch where the energy you lost was next to a standstill.

This is what leads me to saying that the buff to rev is miniscule - while it looks big statistically (83% to 110% oh shi!), the actual effect is next to nothing. Energy is still basically in limbo until you stop reversing.

If you've got another take on it, let me know, but right now that's my feeling on it.
