Default Altitude Flight Demonstration Team

It's probably a ridiculous idea, but what the hell

How about it? A team of pilots that show off their flying ability dancing artfully around maps in formation and pulling off neat tricks that don't involve shooting each other.

The Altitude Angels? The Thunder-Alt-Birds? :P

What say you, brave internet pilots?!?!

would require someone to make a custom level for it to be cool imo.

also, do you really think there are enough homosexual altitude players to support this idea?

Default I find it quite unbelievable...

Diogenes!!!

I find it quite unbelievable that you are attempting to insinuate the homosexual nature of formation flying, considering that many of us here are the product of a union (probably in our parents' parents' generation) involving male brave airmen who, undoubtedly, took part in such valourous displays of cameraderie and bravery.

Brave men who, afterwards, touched each other lovingly as a fond memento of their gay love.

My grandfather was, indeed, such a man - and don't you dare say that he wore women's knickers to battle for any other reason than because they cupped his swelling, virile balls most comfortably.

In rebuttal,
Captain Rechtschaffen (former mascot of Australia's Olympic Synchronised Swimming Team) (retired)

Oh dear. The team would not need any prior knowledge of past homosexual activity, I hope :P A custom map would be nice, though. There are already some big, fairly open ones that would look pretty cool for this, bloo moon's, for example, but if anybody wants to put a map together, that would be sweet

Thinking a bit about the tricks the team could do, it wouldn't have to be limited to formation stuff (although that would be quite a feat in itself). A group of heavy cannon-equipped biplanes flying in a ring, all firing together? Lazer Mirandas crossing their beams in some sort of pattern?

Anywho, this was just something for all the fancy-fliers out there to consider.

If I learned anything as a child it is that Ghostbusters taught me that you never cross beams.

Well, it was just a thought, anyway. The formation stuff would be enough of a challenge for a while. Without having direct communication between players, it'll be interesting to get everyone into a formation and moving together. However, if it works, it'll be so freakin' awesome.

So Beagle and Tyr are interested . I'm not sure what to make of Dio and Rechtschaffen . I'll put you two down as maybes . Anyone else want in on this? I was hoping to have 6, as that's how many planes the Blue Angels use.

Voice communication shouldnt be too difficult to get.
Most teams will use it for the league anyway.
Vent/teamspeak/mumble, the choice is yours.

Nice, PBS Yeah, smoke trails would rule. There was another thread with a suggestion for a perk that would allow fake smoke trails. I lieu of that, we could just crash into walls until we were good and smokey

So PBS, Vi, Beagle, Tyr... Maimer, you seem to have taken an interest in this thread, you want in?

Good ideas for teamspeak, Tyr, I'll check those out. Do you have any experience with any of them? Of course, with teamspeak, I'll have to know how to pronounce your name . Let me take a guess, it's like the word "tire", right?

That is correct. I guess you can pronounce it in many ways, but i'm used to the french way so .. Whatever.

Concerning voice chat, yep, I already used those 3 I listed above
The problem is : you have to have a server whatever the program is.
The good thing is : tec27 put a Mumble server up for the Teamliquid league a while ago, and I checked this morning, it's still up, we can use that one.
Thats probably what we'll use with ACE anyway.

Sweet. Thanks tyr. Is the TL server still locked? And if so, you think you could persuade someone to let us try it out?

Also, we'll need a name. Anyone have any thoughts? Other than the Altitude Angels, I'm drawing a blank.

Edit : Maybe something with the initials (AA) isn;t the best And btw, you want in on this Monxy?

tec's Altitude server will be used for the Summer League (its currently the BGH PROS ONLY). It will be passworded so I think we can use it when a match isn't being played.

I'm thinking about ping issues though. Most of you guys are from USA or Canada, and i'm from Europe. Whatever the server's location will be, some of us will have high ping. Even if it's not very high (130ish) it could screw the figures if we're not careful.
Depending on the observer's point of view, the high pingers will have to be ahead of/behind the formation to actually be in the formation.
What do you think about that ?

I think we should try it out and see what happens.

I also have access to a magical computer that gives me pings in the 60s on European servers.

When someone wants to play around, send me an IM: uncoiling

Yah, ping is definitely an issue we'll have to work out one way or another. As for trying stuff out, I think we should gather together soon just to make sure teamspeak works for everyone and see how bad the ping issue really is.

The rest of my week is kinda clogged, how is the weekend for everybody?

Why not just multibox and therefore you could make it look identical in movement?

Default Ideas for names!

I just had a few ideas for a team name, some more inspired than others

Hell's Angels

Firebirds

Satan's Kittens

Cheshire Cats

Grim Reapers

Blacksheep Squadron (would be initials BS, with potential hilarity ensuing )

Altitude Terrors

Team Venture ( XD )

Thunderbolts

That's it for now. All thoughts and suggestions are welcome and encouraged!

So, are we doing something ?
We should set a time like next week or something so that people have enough time to see when we're meeting up and everything.

And by the way, tec just informed me that his Mumble server is going down very soon.
I'm gonna run a vent server for my team so we might use that if you guys want.

Awesome, thanks tyr. Yeah, nobody re'd for today except you, so no go. Beagle is going to be the toughest because he's across the date line. Last I saw of PBS, he left a game in a huff saying he hated altitude now, so i don't know what will become of him. I'm still hoping for at least six, so if anybody wants to invite other players to join, run 'em by me and we'll see if we can pump our numbers up!

As for meeting up, I'm busy until next Tuesday, so anytime after that should be good. Post up with your availabilities!

New name thought : Hurricanes or Altitude Hurricanes.

As for names, the only suggestion that remotely interests me so far is the Firebirds. A shame that Thunderbirds is taken. I like birds though, so any suggestion with birds in it is likely to get my vote. Stormbirds. Birdplanes. Altibirds. Birdsplodets. Thunderhawk. Thunderpheonix. Birdships. Flamebirds. Birdsplosion. Birdtastrophe.

Following Triped's train of thought, could go for something plane and simple such as the Biplane Sextet. Really though, names are not what we should be focusing on right now. We should be focusing on ****ing around in a private server.

This idea is fantastic, a lot of the fun I get out of Altitude is from just trying to fly with style. If you guys do meet I would love to fly, maybe show you guys whats what with the biplane

The Pigeons. Simple, but effective, I like it! (j/k) Yay! Slip is certainly welcome! Okay, so everybody think about your availability for a meet up sometime next week on tyr's Vent server. We'll see about getting the teamspeak up and running for everyone and deal with lag issues as they arise, try out some simple formations too, like diamond.

EDIT : more bird-related names for Vi

Screaming Eagles, Gyrfalcons, Vultures, Altitude Albatrosses, Red-Tails, Ospreys, Ruptured Ducks

btw, you don't need a mic to make vent work. You just won't be able to talk. You still will be able to hear others though.
