I notice from watching the bots that when they afterburn they do it in short bursts lasting only a fraction of a second and they do this repeatedly. Is this by design as the most efficient way to use the afterburner or is it something else?

maybe it's like the Grand theft auto glitch where you can spring forever by tapping sprint instead of holding it?

But instead of afterburning forever as a goal, energy conservation is?

Expert bots will often tap the afterburner so that their energy never maxes out (wasting energy regen) and they retain an almost-full bar to unload on enemies. For someone with perfect control this is often ideal, but in practice I for one never do it
