Default Can't join ladder servers despite buying the game

So I still see the red X next to the servers that I believe is only suppose to show if you are level 13 or below and/or do not own the game.

I'm level 52 and bought the game on steam, I bought it during this free weekend. Is it just treating everyone who owns it on steam as being a trial account until the weekend is over?

Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: Since my first guess after reading this would be to restart the game I should mention I bought the game yesterday and have restarted the game since then.

The ladder servers have a password to protect the new players from accidentally stumbling into them. The ladder fosters a highly competitive atmosphere, mostly full of people who have been playing the game for months if not years and have gotten quite good at it.

Because of the highly competitive atmosphere, players can get very frustrated at teammates that they feel are not pulling their weight so when a new player joins before he is ready to play at that level things can get very ugly.

Also, players who leave the game midway for no reason get bans from the server, which can cause misunderstandings with players who don't know all the rules for ladder before they join.

For these reasons, it's safer to keep a password on the ladder servers to keep players out until they are ready to play there.

If you want to play ladder, please read all the rules of ladder and be prepared for the competitive environment. I believe the password is available in the rules somewhere.

Happy flying.

The ladder servers require you to be at least level 60 to join.

If you saw the level 13 requirement in the rules, it's intended for people who continue to ace/prestige after reaching level 60 the first time.

Thanks! I'll go grind the last 6 levels or so, just looking for better competition as in the pubs I am MVP'ing like 95% of the time.

Which pubs? if you're getting mvp in offical or a clan server that's pretty good, but if it's just the new player servers I'd advise you transition to dojo once you get to level 60 first just to make sure you're ready. Good luck!

I play everything, primarily TBD but I do enjoy ball. Even got a 6 goal game in a 8v8. I try to avoid the new player servers but there are so many more of them and I generally get much better pings there.

well most new players play ball, I don't prefer one over the other anymore tbh. And there's no real analog to dojo for tbd, except for maybe official so I'd say stick with that.

Five bucks that this guy is better than 90% of the current ladder players.

ETA: it's important to note that ladder serves are privately run and are not affiliated with the creators of the game

Most people who play ladder on a regular basis can point to any public server and go like 30-3 k/d ratio. Its a completely different game from the public servers so be prepared.

Play in AIR EU, then move on to ladder once you've become good there.

EDIT: with free weekend, lots of < level 60 players in AIR EU too so watch out

Ha-ha, I look forward to joining into this community already. But yea I played on an official server and found a huge difference in skill and more importantly in play-style. I still did great but I now see definite room for improvement.

On the new player servers everyone pretty much just chases all the time, like a swarm of bugs following the light wherever it goes rather than thinking where it has to go/will go and making use of choke points and positional defense. That and the fact that there is some semblance of teamwork, like actually helping the bomb carrier. Allowing the bomb carrier not having to just go for a solo sprint but instead can actually take time make use of teammates to methodically move the bomb towards the base.

I think I might try to spectate a few ladder and if possible league games to learn more on their strategies, since the play-style has completely changed from what I know. Plus now that people have more skill, I am thinking of switching planes and with that the control method. As I have been using a Xbox controller + Loopy. Allows for great ship control but poor aiming which loopy doesn't get hurt by unless you have really poor aiming. But having a cursor on the screen to aim Miranda power shots seems to be more beneficial.

You TBD snobs. I'm not advertising for ball and I don't need to. It's you TBD guys that are whining all the time about how TBD is dying. Maybe if you tried being friendly you'll get more people to stay.

I cannot express how I feel about "TBD vets" (notice the quotes) without getting an infraction on the forums.

They can.. yeah.. go do that.

Correlation does not imply causation. We whine because no one plays TBD, not the other way around. More people prefer the fast-paced style of ball games over the slower map control/bomb push style of TBD, it's a sad fact of Altitude that has little to do with how TBD players act.

Let's try to keep this thread as a "Oh look the new guy isn't bad" thread, and not a "tbd vs ball" thread OK GUYS THX.

TBD isn't dying. There are people still playing in TBD hideout/official#3 and a few other TBD servers. I was talking about ladder.

So was I. In the off-season at least.

Also, lolwat. When did we start being so uptight as to redcard for non-swear words?

Personally speaking, I jumped into [ball] ladder too soon (doesn't everyone) and took my abuse for ages. I got the feeling that TBD ladder was where my abusers went to get away from noobs like me... so i dared not follow them.

Most people going into any ladder for the first time sometimes take a lot of verbal abuse because they do not understand the gameplay. I know I have raged many times in ball ladder for some new people not understanding what to do (same for people who immediately come into tbd ladder once hitting 60 and camping the bomb). I understand I shouldn't get mad, it just gets aggravating, but I really mean no harm to anyone who is willing to learn to get better at the game.

Also, maybe you should learn to take some sarcasm and not blow up like this. Another thing, we don't all whine about how TBD is dying, and those of us that do "whine" is because the game mode is just too slow for people who don't want to learn how to kill things and actually learn to push for a bomb runner and not camp bombs, so they prefer to play the fast paced style of ball where dying a lot isn't as bad or cost as much as it does in TBD.

Stop acting like you need skill to play ball ladder.
Step 1. Pick loopy
Step 2. Press f
Step 3. Repeat 1 until you realize ball is a no-skill mode and change to TBD

Ball vs TBD

TBD is so pretentious. I mean TEAM base destruction? Like you don't need a team in ball...
