This thread is for the heroes of the terrorist attacks against the US. The death totals at 2,977 (+ 19 hijackers) and injured more than 6,000 innocent people. On that day, 343 firefighters gave there lives to save others as the world trade centers fell. The effects if it are remembered today and forever in the US. Please offer your stories of 9/11 and no dumb post, this is serious.

I was pretty young when it happened but I do remember seeing the newspapers the next day. =/

While the event effected the whole world (for the worse), it's refreshing to see footage of people selflessly helping others - putting aside all of the politics and coming together for a common cause. That's why I love America.

Although that's most likely true, I've always wondered why there are so many sources showing stuff that suggests cases which induce conspiracy theories or at least thoughts AGAINST the ruling theory of (solely) bin Laden and his hijackers being the suspects.

Any thoughts?

EDIT: Almost everyone I know of have more faith in one or another conspiracy theory owing to the vast amounts of certain sources available on the internet and NOT on television.

George W. Bush signed the papers for the invasion of Afghanistan on September 10, 2001.

Because people hate their governments and there is a huge amount of money to be made from peddling crap. Most of them are easily disprove (thought I don't want to get into a massive debate).

"Steel melts at 1400 degrees, fires would never reach this temperature"

True, fires never would get this high, but the steel in the building is load bearing and steel loses half it's strength at 600 degrees. You only need enough heat to weaken the columns sufficiently.

Personally I think conspiracies are insulting to those who lost family members. For people to say that an unmanned drone crashed into the pentagon when 300 people died in a plane crash is damn disrespectful.

I have also heard a statistic that more than half of the families affected by the attacks don't believe the story either. They also want to find out what really happened.

"Lies, damned lies, and statistics"

This thread has served its purpose of honouring the deaths of the 9/11 victims, and the heroic efforts of firefighters etc who did their best to save them. I think that, regardless of what else we believe about 9/11, we can all get behind that sentiment.

This isn't the place for 9/11 truth discussions, and I'm going to lock this thread as it has strayed from the original intent of the OP into "prone to huge argument" territory.
