Default Altitude Football World Cup

Sunday, Oct 2nd, 7pm (Altitude Time)
(noon PDT, 3pm EDT, 8pm BST, 9pm CEST, 10pm EEST, 11pm MSD)

Winners

Tournament Draw

Format
  • One groups of 6 teams
  • Each match is a best of one game, first to score 6 goals
  • 3pts for a win, 1pt for a narrow loss (6-5 or 6-4)
  • Ties are resolved by result(s) of game(s) played between tied teams
  • In more complicated scenarios, goals scored will be considered. Finally a random draw if needed (hopefully not, but in case I screwed up system)

Schedule
  • The group stage matches will be played over three 20minute blocks
  • We may stagger matches in 10min bits to reduce server load if necessary
  • The matches will be played in either F-117 server or Cashnexus servers
  • Please see post below for detailed schedule
  • The password will be AFWC

In-game Rules
  • All teams must be present and ready to play at the start of the tournament, otherwise they will be eliminated*
  • 5 minute grace period from official start time to setup team etc
  • Usual vote starttournament to initiate game when both teams are ready
  • Both teams should take a screengrab of the result and email to amateurlobster at ymail.com ; or just tell me
  • Each team is allowed 1 substitute per game
  • A team must announce this sub to other team unless due to disconnect
  • Substituted player must move to spectate before incoming player may spawn
  • Substitution may only be done once, however in case of disconnect, there is a 1minute window to allow that player to return to the game
  • Please see registration thread for additional rules
  • *If a team only misses 1 match, we should have time to make it up but don't count on it

As always comments/suggestions welcome.
After tournament please leave feedback on how if can be improved.

Results

To use bonus points I had to write score a weird way in the above bracket. But here are actual results that i have.

FC. 6 - 5 LF
[x SMILE x] 6 -1 F-16
=AIR= 6 - 1 F-117

[x SMILE x] 6 -3 FC.
=AIR= 6 -2 LF
F-16 6 - 3 F-117

=AIR= 6 - 3 FC.
[x SMILE x] 6 - 2 F-117
LF 6 - 4 F-16

FC. 6 - 1 F-117
=AIR= 6 -2 F-16
[x SMILE x] 6 - 3 LF

LF 6 - 2 F-117
=AIR= 6 - 4 [x SMILE x]
FC. 6 - 0 F-16

Schedule

Since two clans failed to show up, i had to throw scheduling out the window and games were played in an ad-hoc fashion. It would have been easier if I had done a double-elim tournament but since it was two 4 team groups it was a little more difficult to re-arrange.
Of course if matches go faster (which I bet they will as its football and best of one, 5mins is all they should last but I budgeted a lot more just in case), we can probably do the whole thing in under an hour.
So if two clans are ready to go and the room is free, they are free to play ahead of schedule.

A team must announce this sub to other team even if due to disconnect

Please remove this rule, there's just no way this can be done in-game, plus the other team actually sees it in the bottom left corner.

Another thing: On the EU servers you have bots spawning, plus #4 isn't password protected. Please fix that. Thanks.

Will there be a third place match played at the same time as the Final? I think that would be a good idea

Servers issues should be fixed now but if somebody can go and check and confirm that'd be great.

Thanks

BTW, what's with this password? Please make it something easier to remember as people who disconnect keep asking what it is.

GOGOGO =AIR=

And congrats to [x SMILE x] for coming in second. They gave us a very close final match, and I hope to play them in more tourneys!

Lobster did a great job of rescuing the thing in my opinion, was a bit chaotic after a losing a team but the tournament got played and I personally had a lot of fun, so thanks a lot for arranging this and congratulations to =AIR=

AIR's first place was no surprise, for the second place I was predicting ourselves (FC), but SMILE was surprisingly difficult to play against and I have to say, they deserved the silver.
Lobster made a fine job with the tourney, the other option would have been to pull it off, as 1/4 of the teams didn't show up, but all in all, I enjoyed playing tonight.

I agree with Nexus

well done lobster and many thanks to all for the games. LF had a good night and a laugh on mumble and that's what we are here for.

Again well done to lobster and considering APL was on too I think it went well to get finished

Thanks everybody, the format I had for the 8 teams meant it was more difficult to change to 6 teams. Hence games weren't scheduled and there was a lot of waiting for games to finish which shouldn't have been necessary with 6 teams.

But anyway, thanks to everyone for staying around and playing.
Thanks to Cashnexus for setting up the four EU servers we used.
Congrats to =AIR= and to [x SMILE x] for playing so well.

Hopefully we can run this again in the future. So any suggestions on how to run it better or get more teams involved would be great.

Would anybody be interested in a longer term league rather than a 1-dayer? Could do 1-month seasons or something and teams schedule amongst themselves.

Nice work Lobster! Considering the chaotic beginning you did a great job organising and refereeing!

One small suggestion though next time have the servers so that they have a higher capacity, I think there were a few players that wanted to watch games but couldn't due to the 14 player limit.

Had lots of fun playing tonight. This is how ball_football should be played!

Great job!

Also really well played smile that last game was a lot closer than we expected! (especially after our first encounter ;p) It was the best ball_football game I think I've ever had!

In fairness. Ball_football gets allot of stick and if you play pub servers ball_football it can be very hard to get anything close to a good match. My faith in ball_football has been restored now though
Every match last night was fun, some were classics and some were epic! How it's meant to be played.

I was hoping to record games on my laptop but the max 14 servers were the only issue I had last night. Hopefully this tourney can be a regular.

LF 6 - 4 F-16

How did F-16 get a bonus point if they didn't score 5 goals?

Edit: Nevermind, I see you award a bonus point for 6-5 as well as 6-4.
