wifi ipad to 3g usb dongle

I have an ipad and a laptop with a usb dongle using 3g internet. Is there anyway to set the usb dongle as a wifi modem an find it via wifi with the ipad.

Adhoc network! Dunno for sure if that works with your dongle. It should though.
