suggestion for leagues n such
I think it would be beneficial to all leagues and associated parties if we implemented a blanket rule similar to that of the Little League World Series wherein, to avoid disqualification, all players who show up to a league match are required to play in said match, and if players do not play, their team loses the match by default.
I think this proposal best reflects the spirit and camaraderie of the Altitude Community. For your health |

I didn't play at all last week for APL and I think this is a pretty terrible idea. It's anticompetitive and encourages captains telling teammates not to show up versus just having some players sit. Which sucks way more than not playing.
Even then, a player should know judging from their own skill level, the skill level of players who play similar planes, and the general guidelines of fielding a balanced team whether or not they'll play for their team or not. When apa, mat, and texas all joined FRO this past season, I realized that I'd get a lot less playing time -- not to mention my not playing as much for a little while helping me get comparatively worse than before. If playing time really matters to you, there are other teams out there where you can find that. Heck, if you're unsure of that, you can always get some friends of yours together and field your own team. But yeah this is a p bad idea. Sorry if my sarcasm meter is borked atm. EDIT: It also means teams lose if they win in a best 2/3 2-0 and have more than 10 people trololo |

Here's a better idea: since there's never more than 8 active competitive teams in either mode, we should stop having playoffs. It's pointless to play 7 games only to end up with pretty much every team in the playoff. Yes, I know it's supposed to determine which teams play which to make it fair, but with double elimination it will probably be the top two in the final regardless.
Let's just have a larger league and have every team play each other twice - once home and once away. What difference would there be in Home/Away? Maybe advantage in map choices, or something like that. I haven't thought it through. If there was a case of a tie in the end, we could use Home/Away results as a tiebreaker and if there'd still be a tie, then we'd go for rounds won and rounds lost. Maybe it's my european brain that is not used to playoffs at all, but it only seems to make sense in a different context like the NBA where there's 30 teams for 8 spots. When we have 10 teams for 8 spots or 8 for 6 spots it seems much less meaningful to give your best every week. You already know from the start which teams won't make it. Also, there'd be less bull**** with postponing the playoff final 10 times because one of the teams doesn't have their star players. Thoughts? |
