Default fps capped at 60 for ati cards?

i thought everyone was capped at 60 but yesterday ark posted a screeny of his having 120 and said something about mike having 300 at one point. they both have nvidia cards.

is this a thing? i'd take more fps if i can get it :}

Type /fps 500 to temporarily change your max FPS.

oh yeah sorry if that wasn't clear, i already messed around with the testtargetfps function and it didn't change anything for me

ed: setting it below 60 works fine, anything above that still keeps it at 60

FPS = flight propulsion system. Each plane was balanced around 60 fps but some people like the way their plane handles with slightly more fps.

FPS = frames per second (essentially how often the graphics are redrawn to your screen). By default Altitude syncs to your monitor's max refresh rate (meaning there's no advantage to higher FPS) but some people, especially those from a first-person-shooter background (another FPS acronym!) think super high frame rates feel smoother. Vsync false + higher FPS can also sometimes help if your drivers have buggy vsync/timer issues. Sorry I couldn't maintain the troll in our official tech support forums.

That's right, when the Bumbledore Beta is over, lam is going to unleash a mighty trollstorm upon the forums. Because he won't care about is anymore. All he'll do will be creating CHEATS. *lowers head*

It's probably a complete placebo effect, but my fps is now 120 and it looks so much smoother.

edit ~Altitude/config/options.xml
find:
vsync="true"
change to:
vsync="false"

find:
overrideTargetFps="-1"
change to:
overrideTargetFps="240"

Why would the default be 60?

The default is vertical sync

Refreshing the game graphics faster than the monitor refreshes is a pointless waste of electricity.

I struggle with pings in us ladder and normally play color blind mode. Logic being less data has to travel my wan. If I use the fps 240 setting an I just putting more traffic across ?

Changing the FPS will have no impact on netcode/bandwidth.
