AE: Speed Issues, Freezing on Some Maps

So I've been having two issues lately in the map editor but I think they are connected.

The first is where I'm drawing a geom or editing the hull of an existing one, and the activity grinds to almost a halt. I've waited for up to 5 mins and it may snap back, but it is still very slow afterwards. Like if I try scrolling the map with the arrow keys it may take up to 5 seconds to respond

The second issue occurs on maps with a large number of geoms (I have 2 of them). I've waited the same amount of time but nothing happens; I'm forced to use "force quit."

Running the editor on a Macintosh with Snow Leopard.
