Awesome Games Done Quick
Some of you might know Speed Demos Archives, a site that references (with videos!) all the speedruns of pretty much all the games that ever existed, if there are people speedrunning it.
If you don't know what speedrunning is, it's basically to do the game as quickly as possible, without caring at all about the story/cutscenes/gameplay even. The goal is to beat the game as quickly as possible, so it ends up involving the use of glitches, bugs, exploits, and more generally, just incredible skill at the game. So what's going on right now is a 110 hours live marathon of various games from the past and the present collecting donations for the benefit of a anti-cancer charity. Even if you can't donate or don't plan to, don't miss the live stream because it's really awesome. This is their 4th marathon I believe and I watched every single one of them and everytime it's great. Catch the stream on their main page : http://speeddemosarchive.com/ Details about the marathon : http://speeddemosarchive.com/marathon Schedule of the games : http://speeddemosarchive.com/marathon/schedule/ It just started (at the moment I'm writing this they just finished Portal2 coop), so there's still like 98 games left, don't miss the games you like ! |

This guy is AMAZING. He did this last time and even if I didn't really knew the game, it was pretty incredible. |

Speed runs always fascinate me, especially ones like Super Metroid or SoTN because their are so many options (100%, low%, pure speed, etc.). Tool-assisted ones (not just glitches) are amusing but not really my cup of tea. Def gonna check it out.
BTW Yoshi's Island is awesome |

Third game (About 5 hours in) and they've almost raised 10k for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. We need a best boat donation somewhere in there sometime soon.

To keep with the charitable nature of this event several of us decided to "speedrun" the F-117 Football server. Our quest was simple - score as many goals as possible before time ran out. As it turns out, this proved impossible, as the server, while on a 10 minute timer, has a 15 goal mercy rule built-in. Thus, the task changed from all-out obliteration to 15 goal speedrun.
Unfortunately, we did not receive any donations for our efforts. |
