You should only worry if you see the warnings regularly. If you're doing anything else on the machine, like watching video or playing a game, that could cause the server to temporarily stutter; a single hitch is nothing to worry about. If you're seeing them regularly your machine is under too much load: you may be running too many servers/bots for your machine to handle. You should be especially wary of bots -- the bot code is very poorly optimized at the moment so you should keep your bot counts low.

Default Server hitch detected and memory falling... why?

I have the same problem, and those things occur all the time.

As one can see, the free memory is falling all the time. Anyone knows why?

CPU is close to idle - no load. 1 GB av free RAM. Running a dedicated DELL server in a server hall, 100/100Mbit.

Could be way too many bots and/or server instances running in the allocated space (by default the server_launcher restricts itself to 128 MB of game-related memory). How many servers/bots are you running, and which maps are the servers running when the problems occur?

We are running three servers, all are doing the round-robin on officiall maps. Max players are set to 12 on each of them.

The bot settings are at default, so thats 6 max per server - right?

I havent noticed any special map, but I will look out for it.

But three servers, running on a dedicated rack server (dell), in a server hall with 100/100, no CPU-usage and 1.1GB of free ram should be able to handle it?

I think the default bot count is 2 per server -- you might want to set it back to see if that helps.

Generally speaking, your setup should be more than enough for 3 12-man servers. Do the servers eventually run out of memory altogether and stop? Have you checked the status of the machines when the server hitches occur? Are all 3 servers full at those times? Are any other applications running on the server at those times?

To increase the memory available to your server:

Use notepad to create a file with a single line
-Xmx512m
and save this file to
C:/Program Files/Altitude/altitude.vmoptions

By any chance, does this work the same way with a mac? I've always wanted to change the amount of memory it receives

Unfortunately I don't think the .vmoptions files work on Mac. I'll let you know if that changes.

Crossover games I suppose could work with vmoptions but I like to run servers with Palp so I'm not sure it'd be worth it for the extra memory :_

Lone Wolf sent along this helpful VM configuration info for Mac users:

To make the server launcher run as headless:

Edit the default info.plist inside of the server launcher app package. /Applications/Altitude/server_launcher.app/info.plist

look for a <key>Properties</key>
<dict> section
add this underneath it:

<key>java.awt.headless</key>
<string>true</string>

With these changes you can execute the following without a GUI popping up:
/Applications/Altitude/server_launcher.app/Contents/MacOS/JavaApplicationStub

To adjust the memory available to the server process on Mac:

look for the string:
<key>VMOptions</key>
<string>-Xms64M -Xmx128M</string>

change it like you would in the windows vm options.

I use a launch daemon to automatically start the servers and it works flawlessly:
screen -dmS 'altiserver' /Applications/Altitude/server_launcher.app/Contents/MacOS/JavaApplicationStub
Launched this way the server won't flood the console and runs in the background.
