Also I want to post a warning to all players as I saw a big big misuse of this the first week.

All chatting during a game as a spectator is a bannable offense! If any admin is present during the game is in game be wary of all-chatting if caught as a spectator. First offense is a 1 hr ban from server, 2nd offense is one day, so on. I am posting this as the official warning for all players. We took this lightly the first week, but will be handing out punishments if abused this week. I should note that spec chat is NOT necessary for this rule to be in effect. So once a game starts keep it in team chat. If any teams experience while an admin is not present, please screenshot it post it and a ban will be issued for the following weeks games. Thank you.

This rule is to be included for members of the team playing who are in spectators and the sub. We want to encourage more competitive playing by encouraging teams to use voice chat/private chats, however, I will take into consideration if it is to quickly change set-up in the mid of a game or something to that extent(but if this happens I don't want half of a team trying to convene the message to the players you only need one person to do it preferably the sub), but really you guys should be discussing that in private chat anyways as not to give your strategies away to your opponents.

things can go wrong if admin randomly use admin power to change map, and there can be exceptions. just a note.

Well there are 5 official admins for SL. Myself, Andy, CCN, Dougie, and Ribilla if anybody else has admin powers and abuses it let me or one of the other admins know and we will take care of it.

Clarification: does this mean specs/subs cannot say n, ns, np, gj after a play?

It may seem harsh, but no those would not be allowed. If you say something in all chat you do it at your own risk. If anyone there feels it is distracting they have the right to report you in the ban will be given out. I will try to take into consideration the context and use of all chat, but pretty much anything that I have said is alright is still up to the admin, so while I may not ban you another admin may. I feel best choice is to just not use all chat, but if you do be wary of who is in the server to see if they will qq or not.

I just want point out baiting a spec to use all chat is also a bannable offense so dont do that as well.

I am not trying to be obscure or not specific. The rule specifically states that there is to be NO all chatting once a game starts. That would remove any possible needs for clarifications. I can only heed you a warning that if you all chat for any reason you do it at your own risk. Admins will not be going lightly on this rule.

Again, not my sole decision. Don't shoot the messenger. We want to harvest a more competitive setting. I personally don't care. I am able to ignore all chat, but some don't like it and to harvest the competitive nature we want to enforce it. Make it where people don't qq about spec chat all the time and rule would be removed.

What about all those poor people who don't read this thread? Not even a warning; one all-chat in front of an admin and BAM they're banned, which would be bad for their SL team and probably make SL worse than a few "gj"s here and there.

I will probably issue a one warning type deal. If I see all chat I will warn them and if it happens again I will ban. But not reading a rule is not an excuse for breaking it. I am doing everyone a favor by letting you know what to expect, I could have easily just not said anything and started issuing the bans anyways.

AND I AGAIN stress you have the right to say gj (I honestly don't care that much), but if anyone complains I have to ban ok.

since when does not being able to say "gj" after a play make the atmosphere more "competitive"?

maybe in golf or tennis, but not in football, basketball, soccer, etc...

can fans at least do golf claps?

also, if you wanted to encourage the use of mumble or other voice clients, wouldn't you want to encourage more spectator chat? if spec chat is flooded, teams will have to communicate via voice! (in the NFL, there's a mic between the coaching staff and the quarterback -- but it's considered part of the game if the fans try to make it impossible for the quarterback's audibles to be heard by the other players on the field.)

note: to be clear, i am not criticizing DN as the messenger, of course, since he may personally oppose the policy

But we're not talking about fans here, it's mainly for team members that are not playing and are not using a voice client.

I'll give am example later today of a game against SMILE, on my way to school.

mostly i just see people (sometimes who are on one of the two teams playing and sometimes not) who say "nice" or "gj" after a goal...

of course, there are obnoxious abuses which don't have to be tolerated, but i don't see what's so bad about "gj" after a goal. and it's not like it's hard for admins to discern the difference.

I personally agree with you Soul. I just want to warn those because last week we had a problem in the games I was in and observed with all chat. It was not just simple gj between goals there were conversations going on. We are going to be stern because there was such a problem last week. Like I said before I have zero cares for saying gj or such after a goal (probably no one does), but the rules state for no all chatting by spectators so if anyone does complain a ban will be issued, but for someone to complain about someone saying "gj" or "nice" is probably just being a prick.

We are currently discussing how as a group we are going to handle this rule and how actually strict we are going to be as to help keep consistency among the admins. We are not trying to discourage friendly banter or team spirit, so I understand very well your points. Just try not to post anything else until we have decided as a group of how we want to stay consistent.

Giving admin powers to some *responsible* players could help since I think 4 active admins won't be able to handle every single match/game.

Just giving out some vague ideas on this.

That has been discussed already. It is very very very hard to find said responsible players who will not abuse their powers at all. I really dont think that is going to even be an option. I agree that 4 of us are not able to watch every match and I already gave a suggestion of how to respond to that. If it is so bad that it needs immediate dealing with just contact one of the current admins and we will deal with it immediately.

I'd say it's a pretty good excuse. Since when are people required to read everything on these forums? I'll bet most people will not see this thread at all.

Please don't think I'm insulting you DN, I understand that this was not your idea, I just think that whoever came up with it didn't quite think it through.

So breaking a ladder rule is ok because they don't read the rules? No.

This is a competitive setting (even more so than ladder in my opinion), so I am fairly a strong belief that every team who enters should have completely read the rules beforehand, and by signing up for the season they inherently agree to the rules and set-up in place. The fact that I have to explain and warn people is irrelevant. I am doing it to be helpful and not act like a total prick in the end.

And I apologize if I seem harsh, it is not my intention. I try to be succinct and explain the views as a whole of the admin group. Please remember we are going to try to set a guideline for everyone to follow, so people know what is and is not ok. I am not going to try to be a total jerk and ban people at my whim. I want a system that works (as well as possible), and to set a guidelines that every admin can follow as best as possible. (Knowing very well that if we were to just set the guideline at no all chatting once a game started would be easiest solution, but with less happiness from the community which at least I don't want).

DN, I am all for this spec-chat rule.

Spectators need to stfu especially when they're not playing. This is not ladder.

Giving a one-time warning is good than an outright ban, that's fine, cutting out unnecessary chat is good.

Thx for the updated map pool.

Ok this is how we plan to approach this rule. We will allow you to say gj, np, etc. but only as a response to a goal. Any other use is a bannable offense. We want to break anything that could possibly disrupt the game as bannable. So if a goal is not scored and someone says anything, it is deemed bannable.

I want to point out a few things here. The ban is from the league not just the servers. So if you are banned from the APL servers you may not play in another server such as AIR private while your ban is on. If observed playing for your team while you have been banned in one server, your team will forfeit the current match.

The way bans will be issued will follow a schematic to this degree warning(does not have to be issued by an admin)->30mins->1 hr->and so on. We may change this up due to severeness of the infractions. Bans will be issued longer for players that are just spectators and not affiliated with any team.

Once a warning is issued anyone in fault of the rule will be banned.

This is again the view of the admins as a whole not just one of us, and I want to give you guys fair warning ahead of time, so that there is not confusion or anything of the such tomorrow.

Thanks

I'm setting a personal goal to get 1 ban per clan over the remainder of SL.

I'm just messin. I'd just like to reiterate what others have said if people used a bit of common sense.. I didn't notice any last week to be honest, the spirit of SL is a lot more respectful than ladder.

On a side note no ban requests in like a month. Mute feature ftw.
