Default Sound problems in OS X in new update

Alright, so after the update installed itself the sound got all screwed up, basically just sounded like hissing, and I've been running into people on the official servers having the same problem. So here's how I fixed it:
I reinstalled the un-updated version of Altitude in a separate folder, then took its .sound folder (from resources -> dist) and replaced the one in the updated game's folder with it (I also deleted the run folder entirely, not sure if that had anything to do with it). Anyway, it works fine now.

Hey,

You mentioned this solution to me in-game. I investigated but I can't find any files at all in resources > dist - either in my original install or the new one I downloaded. Are they invisible or sommat?

Do all sounds now have hissing, or are there some effects that still play as normal? Has anyone experienced this on a non-Mac computer?

They are hidden. Try entering this in the terminal:

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE

And then restart the finder. Everything should be visible now. (You can restart the finder by doing killall Finder in the terminal.)

All of the sound effects are just blank hissing. The intro music still works, I believe.

thanks for the hardware info. looks like it's a PowerPC issue (endianness). We should be able to patch this soon.

Yep, got that bug today too with the new update. I run Altitude on a PowerBook G4 (PowerPC) 1.5GHz, 1.25GB RAM. The music in the menu is fine, although it cuts sometimes unexpectedly when entering sub-menu. I can hear a short glitch at that time. In game, sound is all glitched, nothing heard except crap :-(. Endianess or not, I can't tell. I just can't wait to have a patch on this :-). This game is amazing, thanks for the support team!

Could you navigate into Altitude's sound runtime directory,

/Applications/Altitude/resources/_derived/run/.sound/sounds/ui/

And try playing "modal_window_focus_error.wav" in your sound player; does the sound make a nice bloop or is it just hissing?

in the resources folder i just see a 'dist' folder and a 'run' folder which contains a file called 'cached-version.txt' which contains the following...

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<TripleVersion major="0" minor="0" micro="220" />

i'm on PPC. static hissing when playing.

A patch has been deployed. We don't have a PPC to test on so please let me know whether the issue is resolved.

Just to be sure -- did you try joining a server to see if the sounds hiss in-game? Sometimes the sound cache isn't emptied until you join a server.

ok, the ingame sound is now fine but the gui interaction is not. when you click on buttons and navigate around different windows you still hear a short hissing for a second or so.

Restart the game -- does everything work now or are GUI sounds still broken?

Raythe: start Altitude, enter a game, allow load to complete, exit Altitude, restart Altitude. Everything should be fixed.
