Diplomacy anyone?
Following on from Aki's great idea of a non-mafia game... I offer to host a game of Diplomacy. Please Sign up, first 7 in are... in. Please don't sign up if you cant commit to making a move every week... its really not a difficult game to run or play in.
Countries will be assigned randomly by me, once I have 7 sign ups. If I have more than 7, they can be reserves for anyone that drops out. 1 england - 2 france - 3 germany - 4 italy - 5 austria - 6 russia - 7 Turkey - You'll need to download a program called RealPolitik from : http://realpolitik.sourceforge.net/ or... http://sourceforge.net/projects/real...k%20%28Win%29/ it's tiny. It shows the map and allows you to send in your order. We will be using the Standard variant Map...it should be auto loaded when you start the program. Rules The rules for diplomacy are freely available on the web. I recommend you google for them, along with strategies for your country. In summary Each turn you can move one of your units from one space to an adjacent space. Armies moves on land, fleets move on sea AND on costal areas. Ships form bridges so you can jump an army from one place to another over the sea. (I recommend playing with realpolitic and making up orders to see how it works). When it comes to battles every unit is worth 1 strength, however you can add to that if a second unit was in a position to move into the same space but instead SUPPORTS you. if there is an enemy in the spot you want to take you push him out if you are stronger (with support) or if it's the same you both bounce back to where you started. On the map are number of little dots (supply centres). at the end of each two turns you could up how many you own and you adjust the amount of armies/fleets you have accordingly. The idea is to take 18 cities to win. if you have an army in a location at the end of every second turn, it changes colour to yours. assisting You can support others when they advance, i.e. you could support another player taking a province. Orders You send me on your orders once a week by PM (first turn will be a week after signups) and I enter them all in and resolve them. all moves happen simultaneously, you have no idea what others are going to do. Diplomacy The skill in the game is knowing whom to trust (no-one) and who to screw over (everyone else) and WHEN to do it http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Diplomacy/Rules You are free to communicate with all other players in any fashion you like. for now, read the rules, download the program and try it out Any questions just shout |

Ok thanks. No panic.
Here is a link that has a great explanation on the moves, with pictures. http://webdiplomacy.net/ Its really not hard to play, and mostly fun if u enjoy stabbing people in the back. "Luck plays no part in Diplomacy. Cunning and cleverness, honesty and perfectly-timed betrayal are the tools needed to outwit your fellow players. The most skillful negotiator will climb to victory over the backs of both enemies and friends. Who do you trust?" (Avalon Hill) |

Ok sorry this didn't work out. Guess I'm less popular round here then I originally thought. Was hoping to give back a little, meh.
