Default Custom nicknames

'ey.

Suggestion: make it possible to have a custom list for player nicknames. User would save a nickname to corresponding vapor id.

Easiest way to do it would be a *.txt file which the player would edit.
The user friendly version would be an in game command (/addcustomnickname <player> <nickname>).

When a player joins the server, the game would check whether the custom nicknames list is turned on. If yes, game would scan through the vapor ids on the server and compare them to the custom list. If there are matches, game would display the custom nicknames instead of the ones tied to vapor ids.
Ideally the game would swap the names everywhere they appear: player list (when you press tab), chat log, kill log and friends list.

Just to clarify, this would happen only locally. Your custom list wouldn't affect how others view the names.

Pros:
  • With custom nicknames you could clear up the kill and chat logs (shorter nicks = less text blocking screen).
  • Custom nicknames would eliminate the "change player name to something totally irrelevant during apl and confuzzle the enemy team" issue.
  • Custom nicknames would make it easier to find a friend from friends list if they happen to switch their nick every 24 hours.

Also something similar happened in SL 7 and some APL years ago.
