Fusion Co-op design proposal
The idea is to create a game mode that combines the best aspects of 1DE and TBD co-op.
Like in normal TBD, you can join and spawn at any time. No problem if you arrive late! Like in 1DE co-op, you try to stay alive and win the game as fast as possible. But mistakes are forgiven: you can spawn again, although it will take longer than in normal TBD. The first time you die, the wait is 20 seconds. Then it's 30, 40 and so on, increasing with each death. Because of the longer wait times, you don't have the typical problem of TBD co-op where a bunch of noobs keeps spawning and dying, luring and ruining the game for everyone. And of course if you get lured by a noob you can respawn and continue! The way it will work is when you die, the server moves you to the "bot team"; after the wait time is over, you're moved back to the player team and can join the fun again. The server has your vaporId so you can't just reconnect and skip the wait. While you wait, you can spawn and fly around in the "bot area" (there may be some amusements in the waiting room so that you can practice), or you can remain unspawned, observing other players and learning. Each map has a timelimit; if you fail to destroy the base before time runs out, the map is restarted. If you don't win after a few attempts, the server moves on to the next map. Maps have to be in TBD mode (tbd_coop_*), so unfortunately a clock can't be displayed on top of the screen due to engine limitations. I think the script will announce the time every minute, or you can query it with a special command (/time). I believe this new mode will be awesome, but I can't be bothered to actually code it myself right now... maybe someone else will? Open questions: What kind of timelimits do we want? A bit longer than 1DE, i think. How many attempts before moving on to next map? ~3 to 5. What happens when the map is won? Move to next map or give another chance to set a record? Should midmap votes be tolerated? Presumably, because the wait is no longer as boring as in 1DE, there will be fewer midmaps, and fewer midmaps will succeed. Comments are welcome. +1 Great idea. This will make the newer players (because they respawn) and veteran players (because there will be more ppl playing it) happy, but I think you are the only one playing coop that knows how to code this :P
Ed; questions: - For time limit I'd say 125-130% of the 1de limit. - Ofcourse another chance for the record - Probably not, the wait won't be that much longer. Last edited by Cracker; 05-17-2013 at 10:47 AM. |

So I have implemented basic functionality and it's currently online as "Fusion Co-op Test".
