Altitude All-Star Team Summer '09

There is already a thread where people have been listing their "Top 10 Altitude Players" but it quickly devolved into a whiny and generally uninteresting thread.

Here is a chance to put in your two cents about "The Best Altitude Players" with the first ever Altitude All-Star Team Poll.

Rules:

1) You may not put yourself in 1st place on your own list.
2) All votes must be sent in a PM to me (gumbyy). Sign your altitude name and team tag at the bottom of the message.
3) You may vote for up to 14 players.
4) Voting is limited to members of the Altitude Summer League. As you will notice, the options for voting are limited to players in the Altitude Summer League.
5) Votes will be tallied using a score system. 1st place = 4pts, 2nd place = 3pts, 3rd place = 2 pts, 4th -14th place = 1pt. Thus, only 1st-3rd place need to be arranged in order. Recipient of most Top 3 votes will receive 15pts, recipient of 2nd most will receive 10pts, and recipient of 3rd most will receive 5 pts. Recipient of most votes overall will receive 5pts.
6) At the end of voting, the top 14 players according to points total will be split into teams.

Voting will end at Noon EST on Monday, August 17th

Tentative Date for All-Star Game will be Sunday, August 23rd.

Players ranked 1, 3, 5, 7, 10, 12, 14 = Team A
Players ranked 2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 11, 13 = Team B

Players are listed in next post in alphabetical order with their team tag.

First Polling Update

After just a few hours, there are already 8 (count 'em EIGHT!) ballots in. Hopefully news will get out via word of mouth and we'll get up into double digits tomorrow. I hope to have at least 50 ballots by the end (around 50% of league participants). Anyways, here are the numbers so far.

36 individual players have received votes so far which is right around 35% of the applicant pool.

Of those 36, 26 (25% of total or 72% of those who have votes so far) have two or more points.

Of players who have received votes: 19% are ACE, 28% are fLb, 19% are L*, 8% are FN, 8% are ZS, and 17% are fLbSS.

fLb is the only team to have every member with at least one vote.

7 out of the current top 10 have at least one 1st place vote. No one below 10th place has received a 1st place vote.

Maimer has received an average of 2.33 points / vote. This is the highest average in the poll so far. Only four other players have points / vote equal to or greater than 2.

I honestly don't understand how Kuja is this high.
He isnt bad but having almost as many point as Maimer has is not something I understand.
Unless all 8 votants were fLb members, in which case I do, but I doubt it.

In all seriousness though. I do not think Kuja is even close to being #1. Not even top 5.

I have no doubt that Kuja is far and away #1 in terms of having the most people on his buddy list but that doesn't translate into plane skills.

I feel like this whole list is very off already. Some of the people deserve to be in there but whether or not they should be in those ranks is highly debatable. Keep in mind this is basically a team / friend popularity contest combined with a bit of skill. =P

I contemplated doing that but decided that since the playerbase is so small it would mean that almost no one would vote and plus, there are good players on each team who deserve votes.

I did mention that this was an All-Star Team which I assumed people would understand to mean that it was about skill.

It's true that a lot of the positions right now are debatable (for example, I shouldn't be as high as I am...I think a lot of people are voting for me just because they know I read the ballots) but hopefully if we get 50 - 60 votes things will get pretty balanced out. Please encourage your team mates and friends on other team to vote! I've only received 15 ballots so far!

Because I see no reason to deny people from voting for themselves if they legitimately believe they are Top 14.

Honestly I have seen more ballots where people DON'T vote for themselves (even players who I would consider top 5) than ballots in which obviously scrubby players vote for themselves.

I tried to put the MVPs of 3 different teams in my top slots, and the rest people who contributed a lot to their teams success ^^ This is pretty fun although it's true that it probably comes down a lot to popularity.. anyway, cool stuff gumby :]
