Let's just say altitude becomes an esport played by paid professional gamers, living in gaming houses and the like. How would the game then look like? Here are my predictions:
1. Keyboard becomes obsolete; mouse becomes mandatory. Using a keyboard is now associated with noobiness. 2. Bomber becomes obsolete, replaced by HC (with mouse). The term "dumb bomber" is then extended to the plane as a whole. 3. Pro whale players mine hop using normal mines. They memorize the explosion timer to hop across maps. Watching these fast moving whales will be a surreal experience. 4. Superstars play time anchor; budget randas play trickster. Time anchor is more difficult to pull off in pro-level play since pros will actively predict anchor movements. Hence only the diva superstars can justify picking TA. 5. Loopy becomes mandatory for all amateur players in high elo ladder (solo queue). Pro players will still rage over missed emps, however. 6. Getting "caught" is now a thing. Pro players will not unneccesarily expose themselves to fire, so getting caught in an unfavorable situation now becomes a big deal. 7. Pro-level ball play will begin to resemble TBD. Since pro players will "teamfight" efficiently and not get caught, the pace will slow down, much to the dismay of ball elitists everywhere. |

I disagree with everything but #6 (which is true already), but interesting ideas.

your 1 would be the opposite, no reason for aim bot if you can already hit all your shots and keyboard "skill ceiling" is higher. 5 is already true, if you cant play loopy then there must be something wrong with you, physically, mentally, or probably both. 2 and 7 contradict each other greatly. i could see every team using a TA every game but i also think the meta would be drastically different then it is now. TBD would become the far more popular competitive mode as it realize less on randomness and allows for calculated play and strategic decisions.

I think a big part of the mouse vs keyboard issue is that mouse is better against thermo. I think this will tip the balance in favor of mouse for pros. But actually, now that I think about it, whale might be a plane that does not benefit from mouse that much.
2 and 7 might contradict each other. The slower place doesn't necessarily mean that bomber will be useful though. It depends on the bomber's role in ball, which I'm not really sure of. It is not clear what role it fills which another plane doesn't do better. Actually, keyboard might still be strongly preferred for whale players. The reason is that using mines to send people into walls is very important for whale. Typically, using a mine on top of an enemy plane will result in a stall; however, when done correctly the enemy plane is boosted into a nearby wall. I think keyboard might be preferred for this purpose, in order to place the mine correctly. Last edited by netlava; 04-04-2014 at 04:55 AM. |

ok nerds. hybrid vs fullmouse vs kb is perk and mode dependent. this is a fact not up for debate. if any of you spent the time to actually become relatively proficient with another setting you'd know that (or hell just played with different controls for an hour or something until you at least know how it works mechanically)
in ur perfect world most ppl would realize this and, after pigeonholing themselves into a setting, only play with perks that actually perform the best with their particular controls. this happens naturally anyway; all the ****ty mouse hcs never get as good as xx2, walt or vipr and so are never relevant, and similarly all the kb ball loopies toil in their self imposed pool of **** for all eternity. in terms of mouse and kb, the game wouldn't look that much different oh and clap u're a moron |

If they wanted to hop off of all 3 mines then they would have to place them moving towards the enemy direction, turn back to the first and accelerate through all 3 again. (which doesn't make much sense if you think about it. might as well fly forward at that point). However, with the timing after boosting off the first mine, you wouldn't hit the 2nd and 3rd without having to slow down and wait for the pop. The boost is also more minor with a normal mine then a remote mine. Also, if you were to space them out more so you wouldn't have to slow down, you would still end up having to as it takes more time to space out the mines and thus have a longer time between mine detonations. It just doesn't work well boosting off normal mines. ![]() Oh also, if an enemy flew near one of your mines, the whole boost wouldn't work anywayz >_> I believe in moar professional alti, plays would be created. moar lanes would be made in both tbd / ball. also moar defensive playz too. As well as intelligent plane switching ! Last edited by matattack; 04-04-2014 at 06:53 PM. |
