Default can't connect through standalone launcher

hi i've had this problem on my laptop for a while where i can launch the game through steam and it works fine but whenever i launch using the standalone client i get the "unable to connect to login server" error. i looked at the log file and this is the error it's giving me whenever i try to connect using vapor authentication:

I don't know but have you redownloaded the standalone?

Something else on your laptop must be using the same port Altitude is trying to use. It might be as simple as changing the port Altitude is using, edit the config file in text editor if you can't get to the in-game option.

that was the first thing i tried, none of the ports i've tried have worked, and i've tried port forwarding etc.

i think the authentication server uses a different port that is unrelated to the port setting i can change, as the steam version works perfectly no matter what port i use

It looks like Altitude is using UDP port 3009 when starting up, but I think this happens with Steam too.

During the login process for standalone I am seeing a local TCP port 62XXX (XXX seems to change each time) being used connecting to remote port 31373.

Maybe try using http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/s...rnals/bb897437 if you are using Windows to see if anything might be conflicting with Altitude.

i don't see anything conflicting, but i could just be missing it

i only see an altitude process attempting to connect to port 31373 (remote address vapor.nimblygames.com) when i launch the game through steam and never when using the standalone, so my hangup appears to occur before that step in the authentication process happens

It's probably a firewall problem. You can also try specifying the SSL port Altitude uses in config/VaporClientConfig.xml.
