Default Casino de Oyster

I'm willing to be the house if you guys want to bet on ladder games.

Everyone starts off with 100 (virtual) dollars. That's right, 100 smackaroos. 100 clams. 100 washingtons. This is no limit, so bet as much as you'd like.

While I'm speccing only, I will take two wagers each match; bets are on which side will win and what the combined score of the match will be.

If you pick the correct team, payout is 2:1. You get double your money back. $10 bet = $20 payout.

If you pick the correct combined score at the end of the game, payout is 3:1. You get 3x's your money back. $10 bet = $30 payout.

If you every run out of money and want to buy back, you must add [IN DEBT] to the end of your in-game name and I will replenish your pocketbooks with 100 more dollars.

Okay, that's it. To bet, whisper me #bet (team) (wager) (score) (wager). Only valid if I reply with confirmation and witness the end of the game screen.

This system works fine with just one person. I'd be willing to code this out for Van if he lets me know the language and provides a method to alter a person's money Python... haven't messed with that in a while. It would take me quite a while... oi

The [InDebt] is an awesome touch.

It would be relatively simple to code. Long ago virtual money was a planned feature with betting likely being part of it. Decided against virtual money and its probably been at least 6 months since anyone has expressed any interest in betting.

If there was actually enough interest in betting it could be added. Doesn't interest me personally though I have always been interested in fantasy league for ladder and/or SL. That will be added eventually.

If there were people who wanted to work on a fantasy league concept, maybe would code it sooner rather than later. There are just so many extra factors to consider when doing it for an online game that it becomes much more difficult.

Coding betting on games will make a game within a game
Also, the [INDEBT] thing might not work with long names, and people might set up smurf accounts to technically have the [INDEBT] tag, while still retaining their actual account, which sort of (?) defeats the purpose?

Anyone that has a name long enough to be out done by 8 chars has a shorter name they go by. If it was code based, the betting would be against your GUID, so smurfs are separate accounts. If this is Oyster Inc ran, then you'd be avoiding Oyster's watchful gaze of doom.

I'm not very good at predicting anything... but anything to make spectating more interesting would be welcome.

Fantasy league sounds interesting too, but I'd imagine it taking way too long to develop.

Not to add to van's plate but I actually think a coded betting system would do a lot for the ladder scene. Most people quit ladder for the day after getting specced and not having the patience to wait. Having this feature would give the specs something to do and probably keep ladder alive a lot longer (which is also a reason to do it sooner, as next to no new players are joining the ladder scene). DN, soccernamlak and I set up a similar betting system to oysters in a Google doc, but since it relied on our being in the server it eventually lost steam.

Fantasy would be cool but I imagine it would take ages to code. The system oyster described on the other hand seems relatively simple compared to the stuff you've already been doing. Probably just a less in depth version of the achievement system, obviously with constraints like only allowing betting in the first 10 secs and forcing people to stay the whole game to get their earnings.

You need a better name. It doesn't suit you. Something like brainface.

Why are you naming this casino after Oyster? Why not Casino de Clam, so people know that you're the one running it?

edit: Unless Clam is "Oyster" on the forums. I always thought Oyster was Oyster

Alright, I've come up with rules for a SL fantasy league system. I'd like to get this running before the next league matches, but it may not be ready by then due to the draft process potentially taking a day or two to sort out:

Forming a team
- Fantasy team captains need to create a name for their team. (logo optional)
- Fantasy teams will then be given a random number to determine the picking order for the draft

Draft
- Every currently eligible player will be put into a pool for fantasy captains to take turns picking from. (see below for current player pool)
- Because of a relatively small pool to choose from, players may be picked twice, but not by the same fantasy team.
- This will be a snake-style draft, meaning the team picking first in the first round will pick last in the second round, and the team that picks last in the first round will pick first in the second round, etc.
- Fantasy teams must consist of 8 players, 6 active and 2 subs.
- Trades will be allowed up to 2 days after the draft as long as you confirm with me.

Point system for games
Before games are played, fantasy captains will have to submit their team of 6 to me, either via PM here on the forums or in-game whisper. Substitutions to the lineup must be submitted before 12 p.m. EST Sundays. If no team is submitted, I will use the most recent roster available.

- Every player that wins a game earns 1 point for their fantasy team.
- MVP of the game for each side earns an additional 2 points.
- Top kills award earns an additional 1 point.
- Most goal assists award earns an additional 1 point.
- Most helpful award earns an additional 1 point.
- If a player achieves a sixer, that player earns an additional 6 points.

Fantasy teams will be randomly matched up against each other until all teams have played each other. If your fantasy team wins its match against another fantasy team, it earns an additional 3 points.

The team with the most accumulated points at the end of the season wins. If we have enough participation, I'm considering mailing out some sort of prize to the winner.

Obviously because I'm playing in the league, I won't be able to verify the results of each game as they come in. I would have to rely on someone to screenshot each endgame screen with the team list overlay on top so I can see what players were in the game and who earned awards.

Any thoughts?

I really think it is too late to do anything for this season, at least manually. Keep in mind that stats are being collected for ladder, though there is no record of MVP.

Part of the reason I am looking for others to write up a plan for this is because I've really not participated in any fantasy leagues before. I may not know what I am talking about, but here are some thoughts..

As I said there are a lot of implications to consider because as lot changes with an online game vs a professional sports. Most importantly is not having any idea who will show up for games. You have to have way more than 2 subs, I'd have at least 5 or 6.

I'd prefer to avoid drafts because I don't see enough people showing up at one time to draft. My idea is that everyone can pick 20 players they want at start of season. After these picks are due, we see how many times each players has been picked by someone. The top 30 players by # of picks are assigned a salary. Each player in the league then picks 8 players out of their original 20 to keep as starters and top 2 subs, but the 8 players have to be under the salary cap. Then they pick any 4 additional subs out of the pool of players who were outside the top 30 and have no salary. The free subs can be changed at any time during the season (except for between 12PM and 5PM EST on Sundays).

Paid players can also be traded except for between 12PM and 5PM EST on Sundays. If a team is ever under 8 paid players, they fill in the additional spots with free players. After trades both teams must remain under salary cap.

As far as stats I'd do something closer to:
  • Every player that wins a game earns 3 point for their fantasy team. (They have at least 5 spawns in a game to have considered played in the game.)
  • 1 points for each goal scored
  • 1 point for each goal assisted
  • 3 points for top kills in game
  • 1 point for top kill assists
  • If a player achieves a sixer, that player earns an additional 6 points.

Still gets a bit more ugly when you have to consider that some teams will play more games than others and some players may sit some games. We might have to do something like only the first two games played in each bo3 match are used for fantasy to keep things more fair.
