TBD Tournament after SL
I'm going to run a TBD tournament after SL ends, most likely in April. I'd like to run a 3 week tournament, but if only a couple teams sign up it may be only one day.
This is a planning and team registration thread. Dates, rules, format, etc will be finalized later. I just want to announce it now to give plenty of time for teams to form.
I'm open to either running a TBD only tournament or a mix of TBD and 1DM. If TBD + 1DM the modes would alternate each round starting with TBD. So best of three would be TBD -> 1DM -> TBD. If two games are scheduled per week it will likely be best of 3 or if one game per week best of 5 or 7.
I will likely cap teams at 4, any more would stretch the tbd population too much. I may block a team from entering if I feel they won't show up or filled with only new players. If enough teams sign up there may be a preseason to prove your team will show. This is a competitive tournament and teams should have several players with prior APL or at least SL experience.
To fill out the teams I do expect to have a "Best of the Rest" team which will consist of the best players who show up each week not registered on a team. There will either be a captain selected for this team or it will be based on ladder ratings.
I am going to set roster size at only 8 for now, but if there are enough players participating it will be increased. I will allow teams to add any player at any time who has not played on another team other than the Best of the Rest team. However, if the tournament is more than one week there will be limitations on roster changes. You may not be able to re-add any players you remove, although a removed player who has not played a game would be free to join another team.
If we actually have a lot of players wanting to participate I'd be willing to turn this over to DN to run a regular APL season. But as I don't think we have enough competitive TBD players, I plan to run this short tournament.
