Thank you for throwing in Sakura Beach. I hope the winner appreciates it.

Reminder to all racers, that races start on Saturday:

Saturday UTC 20:00/8PM Jonus, Toma, Neophyten, Omni.
Saturday UTC 21:00/9PM Biell, Soneji, Brutal, Ufo.
Sunday UTC 11:00/11AM Paiza, Unlock, Demu, Moon.

My doppler radar looks like it is rendered in black and white, so if the storm knocks out my power and I miss the races, I apologize in advance. Hopefully I get less than 2 feet of snow.

Hahaha everyone in DE is freaking out. Grocery stores being emptied out. I moved to a state known for its snow, but it's just supposed to rain here tomorrow. Good luck with the storm!

Default Week 2 servers setup

ARC servers 1-3 are setup for next weeks races. Please practice these races during the week. We started with the easy maps, week 2 will be technically more challenging.

ball_race_gauntlet (Biplane): Turrets are active and can kill you, pay attention to your green perk. Remember to press "f" (or whatever you have overridden it to) to respawn after your teleport to the next starting point. This race will be 6 runs, 3 on the top track, and 3 on the bottom track (alternating).

ball_race_balloon (Explodet/Whale): Weapons are active, and I recommend you practice with remote. There is a long climb almost straight up which can be accomplished quickly with a couple remote pushes. This race will be just 2 laps, but the course is long.

I would also like to take this opportunity to apologize to the players who had to wait for technical difficulties this week. I believe I have all the issues worked out, and will perform more testing throughout the week.

You could very easily cram multiple weeks into a single one. The races are extremely short. I can see it be justifiable for a US or EU players to show up for such a short event since they can just join ladder after they finished their races, but for us Asia guys we are essentialy just showing up for 2 races and are left with nothing to do shortly afterwards.

It is also very harsh to only have a single race per map. Why not have multiple races and then average out the position?

Ah well actually I'm west coast now. I accept my point penalty for missing a race. I'll be at the next one!

I do agree that we are learning a lot about how a racing championship should work. I don't think we should change the rules in the middle. I would prefer to finish this championship the way it is. If people believe it is horribly broken, then an alternative would be to cancel the races, redesign, and start a new league in a month or more.

I was thinking that after this is over, we could create an RFC thread. We would need to see if enough people are still interested to warrant another league. And, if so, what it should look like. I have already gotten a number of suggestions, which include

* harder maps

* This thing sucks, I am sorry I entered

* many races each week on the same maps with various ways of assigning placement, which include averages, adding times together, points for each one, and each player's best time.

* Time trials, players can race whenever they want by themselves during the course of the week. Whatever fits their schedule, and times are compared later.

* Real teams where 2 or more players are on a team and the winner of the team counts only, and if one of the members misses the race, the other member's time counts.

* Keep the format the same, but do the whole think in one weekend, straight through.

One thing I can say for sure, if there is enough support for another championship, it won't be run exactly the same as this one. This league is proving to be a learning experience for the players and admins alike.

One thing which was unexpected that happened this week is that someone offered to proxy race for a player who wasn't there. I think this is a reasonable thing. So, if you are going to miss a race, and wish to send someone in your place, that seems to be good (assuming that player isn't already in the championship).

I totally agree with biell, we're learning a lot and everyday there are new good ideas jumping out. I like the suggestion you listed, all very intersting.

Moon your idea to play more of 2 race per weeks is good imo.

Oyster, considering that last week a couple of players had problems with times, we'll allow all the players that didnt show up to coordinate a time with 1 of the admins to do a time trial. Then, we'll post the results of the first week's races with the time inserted for their position.
You have time until Wednesday to coordinate a time with one of us. The race should be completed by Friday so that the standings could be updated before the races start on Saturday.

After playing the Gauntlet map.. I can already tell that it is going to be hell. You (well at least I) can barely control the turrets as is, and make due with health packs, but introduce multiple players and all you (I) can do is pray.

Yes, Gauntlet is a little tricky. A few key things to think about are:

1. The bullet blast radius is small, so you mostly get hurt only if you get hit.

2. If the player in front of you dies, you get their HP. You only have to lead the last run.

3. If one player is near one wall, and the other near the other, then you can help each other by each taking half the damage.

4. Make sure to leave enough space to get some of the mid-run powerups.

5. If you can't make it without dying, consider HA. Dying takes more time than the HA slowdown.

Hello chaps, unfortunately I will not be able to make the race today. I started a new job a day or two ago, and since then we've had multiple shootings I have to report on.

I'll be meeting with the local police chief when y'all are on the track.

I know its not the same feeling as a group race, but maybe I can post a time when I get back home (should be around 6 pm pacific) and yall could compare w/ the other racers?

Default Next Week maps configured

Maps for anyone participating in ARC this weekend are configured on all 3 ARC servers. Week 4 only had 1 map, so it was combined and there are 3 maps configured now.

ball_race_mayhem : 3 laps, Randa only
ball_race_forest : 3 laps, Loopy only
ball_race_yoshidesert : 4 laps, no plane restrictions

I didn't realize this would conflict with Super Bowl weekend when we first started the ARC league. Please contact an admin if you would like to schedule a time trial in lieu of your normal races. This applies to previously missed races also. Toma hasn't posted the standings, I belive this is because he is still hoping people who missed their races request a time trial.

This will be the last week of regular racing. If we make it past this week, only the final would remain.

ARC will not be completed. We had a large drop off in participation and not enough interest in the final race to complete it. There were a number of flaws in our design. And, if interest sparks again we will be discussing a number of alternatives which will make it a better experience.

Thank you to everyone who participated.
