Default Metroid 25th Anniversary

Sorry for my first post being unrelated to Altitude, but was anyone here aware (especially those who expressed interest in the Metroid series in this thread) that the 25th anniversary of Metroid for the Famicom was exactly one week ago? Nintendo kind of ignored the date; the fans certainly did not, however.

Since I'm here, no I didn't realize that. Let's see, I was 12 back then. What an amazing, amazing game at the time. The next game to similarly wow me was The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Sorry about the image.

BTW, this conversation seems to be too much about the Zelda series. I personally dislike this, since the 25th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda (which I'm sure you all know about) almost completely overshadowed the Metroid anniversary, especially at this year's E3.

So, has anyone checked out that list of fan events? Harmony of a Hunter was one of the largest projects.

Seasons/Ages is the most underrated thing since automatic back massage chairs.

Metroid is so great, first one I played was Prime (though I was terrible at it and stopped). But then I played Super Metroid and loved it, then went back to Prime and loved it even more. I then got fusion and played through that; most underrated in the series imo. I also 100% went through Prime 3 recently and beat Other M last summer, though Prime and Super are still my favorites.

Prime 2 was probably my favorite of the series, despite it being unpopular for some.

Low % hardmode runs were painful, yet some of my fondest memories of that game.

Prime is my favourite, at least in terms of the way the weapons worked (wavebuster is win)

I also had Metroid Prime II on my gameboy when I was about 5. Hardest game ever, still haven't completed it, it's just one giant level with so many hidden walkways and you need to find them all to progress.

I agree that the Charge Combos (Super Missile for Power Beam, Wavebuster for Wave Beam, Ice Spreader for Ice Beam, and Flamethrower for PlasmaB34m Beam) were very cool and a perfect addition to Samus's upgrades, but I don't think that the Wavebuster was all that powerful. I'm pretty sure that it does less damage than the number of missiles that it uses up. Of course, it's still useful in unique situations like the Meta Ridley boss fight. You can defeat him with one sustained Wavebuster on Normal Mode if you have all the Missile Expansions.

But don't you think that the Wave Beam should have gone through walls? And I can't express how much cooler I think the Plasma Beam would have looked if it was green in Metroid Prime.

That sounds like the entire Metroid series to me.

I just meant I liked the way the weapons worked and remained more relevant (at least in combo form) towards the endgame than in the later games. Also I didn't like the whole ammo thing in echos. Corruption wins the coolest beam colours award.

At least most of the other titles were split up into difference planets etc. In this game you'd have to backtrack across 3 hours of gameplay to go use the spiderball you just found to climb up and roll through an invisible tunnel in some godforsaken corner. I imagine metroid pros would love it.

Metroid Prime 3 perpetuated the red-orange Plasma Beam. I'm not sure what color the Nova Beam should have been instead of green, though.

While the Ammo system in 2 was massive dog poo, you have to admit that it had some of the best boss fights in the series along with some of the most atmospheric overworlds (except Agon Wastes. That place just sucked.).
