Admin abuse again!?

Alright, everyone on alti knows that there are some very abusive admins out there. Luckily since this is freedom of speech, i'm fine.
Now I have been banned throughout my alti career for no reason, the same goes for most alti players who have played for a decent amount of time. Please don't give the power to immature admins who will not handle there job well. Having sayed that, some are doing a fine job such as Soccer or Demuyt (its really ironic since both have banned me, however I do think they are both fine). I have many examples of people getting banned from admin abuse, assuming someone will reply to this with a nasty remark like a few people I know, (Leggo) I will not bother saying it. Now why am I writing this now? Well recently I got banned from a server for "dropping the bomb". Which IMO is not fair. Another thing is that the kick system really should be removed, it is so over abused and no one can handle it properly. Hope you understand.

I appreciate it. I will be the first to admit that any administrator, real life or in the gaming community, is not 100% perfect. I miss things, I make mistakes. That's why I try to talk with other admins when unsure of a situation to ensure that the player(s) involved are being treated fairly based on whatever punishment ends up being dished out. But at the end of the day, I can only try to do my job of enforcing rules to the best of my ability, understanding that not everyone is going to be on the happy side of things when something goes astray.

Regarding reasons for being banned:

There are three types of servers in Altitude.

The first is the "Official" servers. These are Altitude born and bred. As such, the admins for these servers are expected to follow rules/guidelines dictated by Altitude. So being banned for, say, dropping the bomb, would be an unjust ban. Same would go for banning someone because they're bad or because the admin doesn't like them personally.

The second set of servers is what I call quasi-official/community servers. Basically, this is the APL and Ladder servers. Here, while still private, we have a defined list of rules for both which admins are chosen to enforce. We also have a rough time frame for ban lengths based on offense and prior offenses. I won't go into a debate on whether the rules set forth are good or not, but we have them listed for any player to view. Thus, one wouldn't necessarily get banned for "dropping the bomb" unless, of course, you just were camping at your base waiting for the bomb to spawn and dropping it immediately every single time (at which point that falls under Rule 9 and 12 for ladder).

The third set of servers are player-run, private servers. These are servers like =AIR=, Ball Dojo, The Hideout, etc. These are servers that the Altitude Community can access, but they are controlled for, paid for, and run by individual player(s). As such, Altitude (official) has no real control over these servers. I'd imagine that by Altitude allowing one to essentially advertise the server, one abides by basic rules: you can't use the server to sell stuff, etc.

However, Altitude admins are very hands-off when it comes to personal servers; as such, admins in the private server can ban whomever they wish for whatever reason they wish. Now, the well-known popular servers typically have admins that enforce rules that make the playing experience enjoyable for everyone, and are rules that people should be abiding by. Constant abusive admins (as what you described) would lead to people probably playing elsewhere for that game mode. But that's the freedom that is provided for both players and administrators of a private server. Thus, while you and I might see that ban from a server as ridiculous, that is up to the admin there. And if it is a private server (as I am assuming; please correct me if wrong), the only way to appeal it would be to message that admin in Altitude or post in the server thread here on the forums (assuming that server has its own thread).

It can be an overused function, but I think it is a necessary function. Admins can't be in a server 100% of the time. There are times where a player's actions or words are uncalled for or disruptive. As such, we have the kick command in place based on popular vote. It's a way for people to police themselves and maintain some sort of fun atmosphere in a server.

The only alternative to this would be a system that ladder has in place: report the offenders and let admins deal with it when they can. Of course, ladder has many more active admins and a pretty invested community for something like this to work. It probably wouldn't be as effective as in, say Ledow's. Or even Dojo for that matter.

As such, I think while it can be the source for joking with players or kicking for whatever reason one deems, most players usually hit "No" unless there is a good reason why that player should go. In short, a necessary evil to maintain an atmosphere sans admins in a server.

I agree, however I do think the kick should have the "reason" option again which helps the players know why one is being kicked

as a recovering admin, i haven't kicked or banned in about 2 years.

My best advice is go to a server where either
a) the admin isn't a total immature retard or
b) the admins are friendly

Most servers won't have admins even in them so just try not to be obnoxious. I don't really care about you or anything (as an unbiased admin should), but people with admin powers will act like that and just kick you even if you say something stupid or are being obnoxious. Whatever you do, just remember, Sunshineduck is the best admin ever and whatever he does is pure celestial logic and justifiably correct.

I just minded myself to read the OP and I really think that he was talking about some random public/private server, even though he later on on this thread, came up with ssd being a terrible admin (statement which I personally am completely opposed).

I do sense he's trying to refer to the ladder admins specifically, popping up the "ssd oh ssd you terrible admin" topic.

To be honest, I'm not surprised that you've been banned or kicked from server(s) throughout your Altitude career. I have never enjoyed playing with you, and it appears that many other players feel the same way. Here are a few tips that can help you out in the future:

1. Don't waste bombs, or give up with the bomb so easily.
2. Don't waste and camp items. There were a few times when you had a wall, and you used that wall to steal your teammate's wall.
3. Don't be rude or disrespectful. Until you can do that on a regular basis, I would suggest keeping the chatter to a minimum.

Just play nice! It's not hard to do.

Admins usually give out warnings before banning, so if you ever get one, stop doing what you're doing.
